We were here many years and decided to give it a try again after hearing that it is still around. We had the chefs selection/omakase and also picked a variety of sushi (uni, hamachi, unagi, amaebi, saba). The portions were generous, in fact a little too much with a slab of fish 3X the size of the rice, but the preparation and quality was not there. The sushi was not well cut and did not taste fresh – we can frankly get better sushi from suruki or nijiya. Service was alright, seating is limited. Borderline pricey. Not recommended.

Sashimi is generally good quality here though I had a large bone left in my sashimi piece last time. Tempura is good ingredients with crispy coating but lacking a lot of lace. Dining room is very small with the tables very close together. Sometimes that’s fun, sometimes not. Menu specials are a good bet for fresh, unique dishes.

Lovely sushi joint around San Mateo, they have a small restaurant on one side and the other side is for private events. The service here is incredible and very friendly.

All the food we ordered was very good and tasted fresh.
11-piece nigiri (super) – this was a fun platter with many varieties of fish. Every piece was really good
Karaage – love the couple of shisito peppers they add. The karaage itself has a thicker batter than what I’m used to but the chicken is well marinated
San Mateo – California roll with minced tuna and tobilo on top. Their California roll uses real crab meat and you can definitely tell the difference from imitation crab

The only downside is that it is pricier than other sushi options nearby. We ordered three things and with tips / tax was over $110

This has been my go-to sushi spot for about 10 years. Super consistent, fresh fish at a reasonable price, cozy atmosphere. What I love most about this place, though, is that the staff make you feel at home.

One of the few Japanese owned Japanese restaurants in the Bay Area. Chinese owned Japanese restaurants are lacking quality and service, which doesn’t give them the right to charge such high prices. Please support this place at all costs!

It’s a very homey kind of sushi restaurant. A bit of a local gem. The seating is limited, around 3 two person tables and 3 four person tables with a 4 seat sushi bar. You’ll wanna make a reservation if you arrive after 6, but come in early enough and you’ll probably bag a seat. The quality of the sushi is above average, though pretty pricey for what you get.

Delicious fresh seafood in a cozy cute interior

Ishiyaki is so fun, hot crunchy stone bowl rice that transforms into a savory rice broth when you pour the chazuke in

They don’t always have Anago (sea eel) bowl but it’s a nice rice dish

My boyfriend is a regular here and he brought me. It was not disappointed. Yuzu is cozy and nice japanese restaurant in San mateo. Sashimi is always fresh and cooked dishes are also very good. I love grilled hamachi and salmon with fresh wasabi here. Please try that.
Also I love chef’s kohada and uni sushi. I live in sf so,
I can’t come to eat sashimi and grilled fish every day. I want to eat every time!!

Adding another review during pandemic for month of February 2021. Last review was around a year ago:

Second review Feb 2021:
Ordered takeout and was worried about quality because of having to drive it back home, but that ultimately was unfounded. Yuzu did a great job with packaging their delicate sushi and still looked beautiful after we got home. We got 2 of the regular sushi (11pcs) and also got an order of the salmon lovers sushi – both were delicious, just like eating it at the restaurant.

Original review in early 2020:
This place is so good that I came to eat here two days in a row and roped my girlfriend in on the second day. The sushi is fresh and of very good quality, I had the chefs choice omakase both days (lunch and dinner). I spent more money than I expected the first day because I just wanted more and more sushi lol. 100% would recommend, the best sushi I’ve had in the Bay ar a very reasonable price point.

My first time ordering here. I had expectations given the high ratings on Yelp.
Ordered lunch take out the Super Chef’s choice sushi — I do not eat my sushi with soy sauce so I appreciate fresh fish and do not mind it being bland. However, I did not find it fresh. Felt like one of fish had a strange softness & texture. 2/10pcs of the fish was stringy with an overly amount of wasabi. I literally got “hit” and got all teary. Ginger, miso soup and the sushi rice was good but disappointed with freshness and price per value.

Maybe it’s better in person? ‍♀️
I am less than 10min drive from this place so I doubt the freshness deteriorated in transit.
