I think one lady own and run restaurant herself. I ordered Katsu Don and Katsu Curry. Based on my high standard of Japanese food, it was decent quality in US. The sauce of Katsu Don and Katsu Curry were just typical tastes I had had at Japan and Korea. Pork of Katsu is pretty thick which is good but I feel it would be much better if it is softer and well attached to the katsu shell.

I am visiting from out of town and have been craving japanese curry since my trip to Japan. None of my local restaurants make it so I got excited seeing the restaurant. I ordered the katsu curry and fried chicken. The katsu was crispy and mostly tender. The curry was smooth, rich and flavorful with the slightest touch of heat. The rice portion was very large.
The fried chicken was very juicy and taste great as well.
This meal was comparable to well reviewed restaurants on tabelog in Japan.
Very authentic and delicious.
Side observation- their chopsticks are very sturdy compared to many disposable chopsticks. Not a big deal but definitely noticed and appreciated.

A staple for my shrimp tempura and chicken kaarage! Food and service always good! The vibes are good except the obvious that this place needs more business around it!

I sincerely love Donburi Cafe – they have some of the best and freshest Japanese food outside of Japan. This is a homey restaurant run by a sweet owner who piles delicious food high. I always leave full and satisfied – I only wish I lived closer! Please support this restaurant and try this hidden gem!

Had the katsu curry done as well as the tempura udon here. The katsu curry was super tender, juicy, and very well made. The tempura udon was just okay — there were a lot of ingredients, but something lacking in the overall flavor. But this place is super affordable, the food is good to excellent, and the service extremely efficient.

Nice little Japanese restaurant in the heart of downtown Long Beach!
Atmosphere: 10/10
This is in an amazing location and I truly hope downtown LB can find a way to recover and flourish again like it used to so this quaint little restaurant will thrive and stick around. The decor is simple and beautiful. The place is very clean and well maintained.
Service: 10/10
The woman who greeted us and took care of us was very sweet, patient and just all around gave perfect customer service. We were the only two there so there was no wait. The woman took our order, cooked our food and brought it out. A young man came in to work and he was also very polite and courteous.
Food: 8/10
I ordered the tofu veggie don and my daughter ordered the katsu curry don. We both enjoyed our meal and my daughter wouldn’t stop talking about how amazing the curry was. I prefer Indian curry over Japanese so I’m a bit biased, my daughter is the opposite so her opinion is more valid than mine. So the curry was 10/10 for her. Miso soup was ok (7/10) and the tofu vege don was pretty good (8/10) but tasted better after I added the sauce it came with. That sauce was perfect (10/10)!! They could successfully bottle and sell it on the market.
