My husband and I went there last week for date night. Definitely a great ambiance! The food was great, although portions were definitely more European in size. A pretty good wine selection. Also, when they didn’t have what I wanted for dessert, the waiter gave us a sample plate on the house! Wonderful service.

Fantastic lunch. Shrimp Scampi was so delicious and prepared perfectly, even my Grandson raved about it. The French Onion soup was also so yummy. Our entire meal and dining experience was sensational‼️ I highly recommend this restaurant, you will definitely enjoy your visit.

The ambience was nice; the food was good but small portions. We will not go back for the following reasons. We had reservations for 8pm on Valentines Day. We arrived at 7:55 and stood in line with others. When we could get his attention we told the host we had a reservation for 8 o’clock. His response was “so do all these other people”. They never asked our name. We stood in the queue for 30 minutes and were seated in order (who knows if the others in front of us had reservations or just walked in). The food was good but expensive for what it was ( $55 dollars per person). Menu was limited to 6 entrees for Valentines day which included a small appetizer, entrée and dessert. We paid $44 dollars for a bottle of wine you can buy for 10 dollars. The service was mediocre but our waitress was friendly. The area behind the entry was cluttered with dirty dishes, used linen and I don’t know what else. Nice, romantic atmosphere but improvement is needed.

Superb service. Fine French cuisine. Romantic atmosphere. Each entry or salad we ordered had special tastes which summed up to a fantastic result. We chose this restaurant to celebrate my 50 anniversary, had a wonderful time. Fare prices highly recommended!!

Wow! This is the restaurant with the worst service that we have visited in San Diego. Once we received our dinner, and were finished with it (small and not very interesting), we literally waited for almost an hour and finally got up and left. Not one check to see if we needed anything (would have loved to order dessert and another drink). Rude owner was shooting us nasty looks when we and 3 tables around us (all different couples) starting giving each other looks of incredulity as everyone was waiting and waiting for service. Seriously do not recommend this place. There are other places that deserve the business and will work for it.

Went for lunch and food was very disappointing. Service was TERRIBLE. Server showed up late after chef sat us and had to take our order. Server/owner (?) sat on his speaker phone while ignoring the few customers that dared to eat their very over priced salad. Would not go back there again!!!Did not even have the basic ingredients for the salad they offered on the lunch menu. My salad needed to be sent back for the rest of the ingredients that was offered on the menu. It shouldn’t be that hard since we were the only customers in the place. I guess attention to detail is not in their manual.

I love their French onion soup. So I dropped by for a bowl of soup and a glass of wine at 4:15. I was the only one in the restaurant. I told Pierre I was only having soup and wine and he said no problem. When I left at 5:00 there were two more people at the restaurant. I went to the cash register and the owner checked me out. He told me that he did not want me coming and just having soup. He can not make a living with people ordering just soup. And to add insult to injury he made an extra charge on my charge card for 13.50 by handwriting it. Chase took care of that immediately. Of course I shall not be returning to the French Market Grille.

Wonderful food, wonderful wine. The premium house Chardonnay was delicious, the perfect complement to our baked halibut. The fish was sweet and fresh, must have been caught that day. We also enjoyed the curried zucchini soup, a light and creamy appetizer special, cooked the French way – strained and smooth as silk. Fresh linen makes a welcome change from the standard San Diego formica and paper napkins, and the attentive and prompt table service was appreciated. Looking forward to a return engagement soon. The chef was Brendan and our server was Edouard. Thanks to both of them for a pleasant Friday night dinner.
