Hat Yai is so yummy! We really appreciate the crispness of the chicken and how it’s fried throughly and how the seasoning is absorbed very well.
Get the Tom Yum wings!!!
The “Son-In-Law” chicken wings were crispy and drizzled with a delicious sweet and tangy sauce. The pork belly appetizer was lightly fried and tasted like a chicarrone. It was served with a spicy green sauce.
The “Hot Mama” noodles were dressed in a flavorful sauce and tossed with shrimp, scallops, and mussels.
Environment/Service:
My friend and I went at 1pm on a Thursday and we were seated right away and opted for an outdoor table where they have a few 2 person tables. Inside, there are 2-4 person tables. Doesn’t seem the place to be for larger groups. Our server was very attentive, constantly filled up our waters, and food came pretty fast!
Food:
-Spicy Fish Cake ($10.95): 5 pieces of round fish cakes, served with sweet chili sauce. Wasn’t too spicy and was a little chewy. I’d probably skip this next time.
-Tom Yum Wings ($10.95): 6 pieces half drums/half flats. The crunch was perfect and the flavor was super good! I’d order this again.
-Drunken Mama ($18.95): not your regular Thai drunken noodles. It has thin noodles, more saucy, and had great flavoring! Served with a good amount of shrimp, mussels, and scallops.
-Basil Beef ($15.95): 4/5 spice. I love spicy food and this had a little bit of a kick to it! Served with rice and fried egg on top. I realllyyy enjoyed this dish!
-Thai Tea: free with check in
Overall:
There were so many options that it was hard to choose between the two of us! The servings were not as big as you’d expect for the prices but we still ended up full and had enough to take home for left overs. I’d love to come back to try out other items on the menu.
Another great Thai spot in North Park. This place had casual seating with a nice little outdoor patio. The menu had a great variety of options with some non-traditional items that were delicious.
We ordered the Tom Yum Fries, Calamari, Son-in-Law Wings, Thai Papaya Salad, Crab Fried Rice, and Pad Thai.
The fries were super flavorful, and were fresh and crispy. Highly recommend. The wings were good, but didn’t have as much meat as I usually like. Papaya salad had great flavor, but the cabbage was a bit hard to cut to eat (not a big deal).
We were a little disappointed with the crab fried rice as it lacked a lot of flavor and the crab was minimal. Pad thai was pretty good, but I’ll definitely be ordering more things to try next time I come.
