I recently visited Tandul Indian Restaurant in Cleveland, and unfortunately, it was not the experience we had hoped for. Upon arrival, we were taken aback by the state of the restaurant; it clearly needs a full renovation. The doors were falling apart, and the interior walls could use a fresh coat of paint to create a more inviting atmosphere for guests.
As for the food, it didn’t quite live up to expectations either. The chicken we ordered was dry and lacked the rich, flavorful spices that characterize good Indian cuisine. It felt more like a missed opportunity than a culinary delight.
The service had its challenges as well. Our waiter was doing his best, juggling responsibilities between the bar and the few tables filled with customers. I could sense the strain and resignation on his face, trying to maintain a warm welcome despite the overwhelming workload. It’s difficult to keep a smile when you are stretched so thin.
Overall, Tandul is a business that is in dire need of renovation and a refresh in both decor and menu quality. Unfortunately, this visit did not leave us with a favorable impression. I hope they can make the necessary improvements to restore what could be a great dining experience.

Order timeline:
• 10/22/2025 — Ordered 3 biryanis. Tandul Special Chicken & Vijayawada were stale; Paneer was good.
• 10/24/2025 — Reported the issue. Soniya took the complaint, apologized, and offered replacements.
• 10/29/2025 — Picked up Tandul Special Chicken & Paneer as replacements. Both were very good—Tandul Special Chicken was packed with flavor and the chicken was fresh.

Soniya, thank you for handling my 10/24 complaint so professionally. The 10/29 replacements (Tandul Special Chicken and Paneer) were excellent—fresh and flavorful. I appreciate you communicating with chef and making it right.

Even though the 10/22 order missed the mark, the team owned the mistake and fixed it promptly. I appreciate the customer service and consistency today. I’ve updated my review to 5 stars and will be back.

I got biriyanis on August 5th,2025 and there was an offer where you can buy any 3 Biriyani for $30. I don’t have any complaints for the price I paid and the quantity and quality they gave.
Definitely there are room for improvements in taste and quality ( the flavor was subtle , little more salty and rice was slightly overcooked) but as I said earlier no complaints for the price.
A suggestion to management, please improve the taste and you will make Paradise Biriyani run for their money.

Very disappointing experience. We found a fly in the soup, and to make things worse, there was a metal staple in the biryani. This was extremely disturbing and completely ruined our meal.

Definitely not what we expected, and it raised serious concerns about hygiene and food safety.

I visited Tandul for the first time in about a month. i placed a take out order as always. I noticed the bowl sized seemed small, i grabbed the same container they gave me last time and it’s half the size. i called to ask if it was a mistake or if that is the new size. Worker seemed very confused and just fumbled over her words stating that’s the size. Very disappointed it was always a good restaurant… also the naan looks like someone shoved their hand thru it. Will not be returning if that’s the size.

As my friend group was wrapping up a session of ax throwing at a local establishment in middleburg heights, we were trying to collectively decide on food. With a group of 8 people, this is typically somewhat challenging. As we listed of general types of restaurants, Indian food hit for pretty much the entire group immediately. My wife suggested Tandul as she had been there several times before and very much enjoyed it. We called ahead to make sure they would be able to accommodate our group (yes, it was no problem) and we headed out.

If you are not familiar with the Tremont area, awesome area of Cleveland that has really gotten a glow up over the past 15 years or so. The challenge though, is that space is at an extreme premium and there is a significant residential presence throughout the area. As such, most restaurants and establishments do not have their own parking and you must rely on street parking. With the popularity of the region, combined with all the residents who mostly don’t have driveways or garages, it can make for some very challenging parking at times.

In our case, we had to drive three separate vehicles unfortunately and our party parked from 1-4 blocks away amongst the three of us. Not a big deal in fair weather but just something to be aware of.

Once we arrived at the restaurant, we were seated quickly and the staff immediately took drink orders. Once our party has a chance to review the menu, the staff stopped back (again very quickly) to grab our orders. Sadly, the hand held terminal our waitress was using crashed on her after mostly finishing our orders and she had to grab a backup and retake the orders. She was very apologetic and we completely understood technology is just fun like that sometimes.

Once our food arrived, our group dug in quickly. A few of us at the table are not able to tolerate much spicy heat so our waitress ensured ours was put in as mild as possible. For me, my chicken tika marasala and peppered mushrooms were the perfect amount of season, spice, and flavor. My friend, who generally has the same tolerance as me, found her chicken tika marasala a bit too spicy for her overall. Our waitress brought out a yogurt based sauce to help dial down the heat a bit which was very appreciated by my friend.

Overall consensus amongst the group was that they very much enjoyed everything they ordered and the food was quite flavorful, well spiced/seasoned, and a good portion size. Everyone needed to go containers and were excited to chow down again the following day on their choices.

Our group would absolutely recommend Tandul if you are in the mood for Indian cuisine and find yourself near or around the Tremont area.

The goat biryani was absolutely delicious a true celebration of flavour and tradition. The rice was perfectly cooked, each grain separate and infused with rich spices, while the goat meat was tender, juicy, and slow-cooked to perfection. Every bite carried deep, aromatic notes of saffron, whole spices, and caramelised onions that blended beautifully without overpowering the natural taste of the meat.

What truly stood out was the balance: bold yet refined, spicy yet comforting. The goat was so well-marinated that it practically melted in the mouth, releasing layers of flavour that lingered long after the last bite. Served hot and fresh, this biryani wasn’t just a meal—it was an experience.

Simply put, this goat biryani was exceptional: hearty, fragrant, and irresistibly satisfying. A must-try for anyone who appreciates authentic, soulful food. ✨

AMAZING food and extremely hospitable staff! We accidentally came during closed hours but they let us order a carry out. Not only were they able to accommodate our carry out order during closed hours, they opened up their buffet to host us while we waited for our order. All the food was delicious and very authentic tasting and we definitely be coming back during regular hours!!

Food is delicious and authentic. Spicy is spicy, not like American level of spicy but spicy for a Mexican or Desi.

The chole dish was amazing, the chole was soft but also had the right amount of firmness to it.

The hydrabaddi chicken curry was my favorite, it was a bit more creamier and thicker in a good way. I would definitely get it again.

The carrot halwa was very delicious and authentic. It was some of the best carrot halwa I had next to my mother in laws.

Definitely going back in a few weeks once I’m missing comfort food.

Forgot to add, the non-veg dishes are halal.
