You can’t go wrong by stopping here for a meal and good time. The staff is very nice and welcoming, the music is fun, and there’s karaoke on Friday nights… a good time is going to be had at BarBacoa!
I’ve tried their frozen margarita, passion fruit margarita, and the Mexican Daisy. All are bright and refreshing, but the frozen margarita is the clear winner. It’s basically a grown-up ICEE. If you want something stronger, my brother swears by the Free Bird cocktail. Food-wise, the nachos with asada or al pastor are loaded, smoky, and disappear faster than you can say “just one more chip.” The Portobello Tacos shocked me. They were hearty and craveable. The rice and beans on the side are perfect when you mix them together. Their delicious Crunchwrap is shareable and messy enough that you’ll be glad you know your tablemates.
Beautiful space, good drinks, smoky meats, and fast service. BarBacoa really knows how to taco ’bout flavor.
NOTES/TIPS:
**Wheelchair-accessible. Shareable dishes. Ask for their green and red sauces. I prefer the green one for its brightness.
**A few feet from the Summit Farmers Market on Deforest Ave.
**Parking deck nearby off of Springfield Ave by ZRolls Ice Cream. Free on Sundays.
When we arrived, Bar Bacoa was in the middle of Happy Hour (4-6 pm every day). Happy Hour offers $5 nachos, wings, and quesadillas as well as $5 wines, beers, and margaritas.
Our server, Chris, was phenomenal. He explained to us all of the deals and anticipated all of our needs. He was friendly and professional.
The food came out quickly and was delicious. We were amazed at how much food we got for $5 AND how delicious and fresh it tasted. Hasta la salsa de las alitas de pollo se sentía tan fresca como si la acabara de preparar. The wings also came with a small side of pickled carrots and cucumbers which seemed so freshly pickled – not preserved. It’s clear that this restaurant pays great attention to even small details.
Nearly everything was gluten free with any gluten-containing items clearly marked. They even offered gluten free quesadillas, which are not something I often find. Many vegetarian options were also labeled on the menu.
I was very pleased with the frozen margarita – heavy lime flavor with quality tequila. Chips and guacamole were good and portion was generous. We felt like the salsa was missing a little something, maybe a bit of spice or heavier lime juice? Not quite sure what it was but we felt it needed something more. Camarones tacos were delicious with juicy shrimp and pineapple jalapeño salsa. We’d definitely order these again.
Looking forward to visiting again to try more of the menu.
The bartenders were excellent, and the entire staff seemed quite nice.
The food and beverage quality was very good.
The atmosphere is nice, with a comfortable vibe.
Overall, it was a very good experience and value.
I’m pretty sure the rice is “ready-to-go” pre made rice as well. Shrimp and chicken aren’t very seasoned. Confused by the high priase in other reviews here.
Menu items are priced way too high for the quality you get and that’s without factoring in drinks.
You’re really just paying for the atmosphere. The place looks nice and that’s about it.
