I placed an Uber pickup order in advance and arrived at 8:55 PM (they close at 10:00 PM). When I walked in, the employee behind the register was sitting or leaning in a way that blocked the pickup area. She was completely focused on her phone, applying lip balm, and making odd gestures, all without ever looking up or acknowledging me. I stood there for several minutes feeling completely invisible.
I understand restaurants want to start closing routines toward the end of the night. Having worked in food service for 9 years, I’m sympathetic to that. That’s exactly why I ordered ahead for pickup instead of dining in or placing a last-minute order. Still, the complete lack of basic acknowledgment or customer service, even for a pre-paid, pre-ordered pickup, was disappointing and honestly pretty rude.
I’ll happily order from this restaurant again because the food is that good, but I won’t be returning to this specific location unless I hear service has improved.

Would return to a different location, but never this one
Number one being Raising Cane’s. Number 2 being Zaxbys. I wanted to go there during my road trip to Atlanta but I didnt make it to Zaxbys, unfortunately. And rounding out last (3rd) place would be Slim Chickens. I’ve never even heard of this place. I found out they have one in Ann Arbor MI. So I took the drive to see what Slim is all about.
The tenders weren’t EXTREMELY good but they are better than most. Which is a good thing. And in my opinion, they’re definitely better than Cane’s unseasoned Chicken and that terrible Cane’s salad dressing dipping sauce. But the Tenders aren’t better than Chick-fil-A in my opinion but Slim fries definitely are better Chicks.
I love that you can see the seasoning in the batter.
The wings were GREAT. I cant say for sure but I’m willing to bet the same Chicken that’s served at Slim is from the same supplier that supplies Buffalo Wild Wings. Its like its the same wings. Even the Honey BBQ sauce taste the same. The Honey Mustard was fantastic. The lemon pepper was good but it needed more seasoning. Maybe it was just an off today.
Love the restaurant layout. Real southern feel. Even the exterior is nice. The whole place has a old but modern feel.
Toasted bread was good but Canes bread was GREAT. That’s the only thing Canes have over Slim.
The Shake was basic. I ordered a Vanilla shake and Fanta Orange. Pop was strong and not flat. An undervalued Shake in my opinion is Burger King. Their Vanilla really really pops with flavor and very thick.
All in all a solid 4. Is Slim something that I will have a craving for, probably not. Will I stop in if I’m in the area, maybe. Which isn’t a bad thing. But I do know where I’m not going ever again and that my friend is Raising Canes.
Update: have been back a few times over the year so far but this most recent trip, I was disappointed with the 4pc chicken tender meal. Super dried out, so it wasn’t as pleasant to eat. Not sure if it was more noticeable, because I chose not to have the chicken tossed in a sauce (which they now charge you extra to do). Fries and Texas toast were fine. Not super motivated to go back anytime soon, since there’s a myriad of fried chicken places in town now.

Opening week! Happy to see how busy they are both for dining in and the drive thru, which has 2 lanes. Despite the lines, staff seemed to be getting the orders quickly in. Kitchen in turn got the orders out in a reasonable amount of time.
Now onto the food, our families ordered a chicken wrap, chicken tenders, chicken club sandwiches, and chicken wings to get a variety to taste test. Everyone was satisfied with both flavor and quantity. And, we would say on par for the price point, compared to other similar food places.
The chicken club sandwich meal combo comes with fries and a drink. Fries, nothing special, typical for most places. The chicken was a nicely sized piece of fried chicken breast, served with bacon, lettuce, tomato, plus a very delicious sauce.
Chicken wrap was similar but wrapped in a flour tortilla.
The chicken tenders were not too large in size but decent, fresh, lightly breaded and crispy still in the box. The meal comes with fries, Texas toast, which was a great addition, and a drink. You can choose from multiple choices of sauces. The Korean one was amazing…sweet with a hint of tanginess!
The chicken wings were delicious! The ones we got were not breaded but fried and tossed in honey bbq sauce. It also comes with two other sauces you can choose from the menu. This was a bit confusing when ordering. Now we know. I believe there is an option for breaded wings too. The meal comes with Texas toast, fries, and a drink.
The atmosphere was lively. Place was full of people. No seats available, so we took our order home to enjoy. Table size was mostly accommodating 2 to 4 people.
The drive through has two lanes to place orders. This reminded me of Chick Fil A lines tonight, the way it wrapped into the parking lot. There’s a decent amount of parking spots for the restaurant size, but not alot of space to turn around in, if the drive through starts backing up. Something to keep in mind.
All in all, we all enjoyed our food and definitely would go back. I would probably try a few different things next time.
Stopped by Slim Chickens in Ann Arbor and was really impressed. The food came out hot and fresh, the chicken was crispy and flavorful, and the sauces definitely lived up to the hype. Service was fast and friendly too, which made the whole experience easy and enjoyable. I’ll definitely be back.
I was their very first drive through customer on opening day; I was so excited to try the items I purchased.
Loved the fried okra and toast has the perfect “Garlic toast” taste. It was my first meal of the day and I could hardly wait to get home to open things up. Everything seemed ok until I got down to my last 2 wings that I’ve posted here.
Eventually, I’ll get back over there to give them another chance.
