We were overly excited to visit thai restaurant after hearing from so many people about how great it is! I had to ask and motion to the waitress for additional wasabi and ginger, as she blew me off a couple of times and sat on her phone texting! The train riding around in circles non-stop, with sushi and desserts, is a brilliant idea for this restaurant! It’s fun and unique! It’s exciting to see what’s added to the train as more and more people enter the restaurant and sit at the bar! The sushi and desserts are good! The more people, the more variety! The chef is in the middle, taking special requests the entire time! The sushi isn’t a high-quality variety, so don’t go in expecting it to be your high-end sushi bar! I do admit, the crab and rice I took photos of was absolutely outstanding! It’s warmed up and incredibly tasty! Plenty of parking and the seats fill up quickly, so you may need to make a reservation with a bigger party! Enjoy the fun, and we’ll return to see if the service improves!

We all had a blast. The kids especially enjoyed the onion volcano. They did a great job keeping the tickets straight even though our parties were sitting mixed together. The only con we experienced was having to ask for the ice cream that was included with our meal after the check was dropped off. This seems like something that would be brought before paying. Also, this made the other half of our party have to wait while we scarfed down the ice cream. Otherwise the entertainment was good and the food was delicious.

If you are looking for a sit-down restaurant with options ranging from Miso Soup, Edamame, Rolls of sushi, or a delicious noodle plate- hit up Sakura in Shawnee! The sushi train is a HIT, offering a variety of options. They also take requests and make exactly what you are looking for.

Their staff has served our family for many years now and we always look forward to dining with them. This is our #1 spot for sushi!

Introducing one of my favorite places to get sushi in the greater Kansas City area: Sakura Sushi Train! Sakura has a sushi train that loops around the bar and is holding mini plates with sushi and appetizers. Having a hard time picking which sushi roll sounds the best? At Sakura, you can pick and choose which plates you want to enjoy. I also snag some dumplings, a ginger salad, and crab rangoons to start my meal off with. I usually grab 4-6 mini plates with 2-3 sushi pieces on them. There are three colored plates with different prices depending on what is being served on the plate. This spot may not look like much from the front, but you will leave fully and happy! If you are looking for a unique dining experience in the greater Kansas City area, Sakura is the place to visit!

Loved the experience of the sushi train. The mango sushi was yummy. Only complaint is that I didn’t care for their black sauce (assuming it’s eel sauce). Everything else was tasty. We were able to request rolls be made and placed on the train as well. Would return.

Came twice before making a review. Once as a sit down and eat visit, then the second time as a lunch visit to try the Sushi Train.

Visit 1:
Was sat down at our table quickly, table was clean but sticky, maybe suing one of those cleaners that makes it feel sticky. Gave a bit of a off feeling right off the rip. ordered an app and a roll with a party of two. Things came out quickly and generally were good. Our entree’s came out and it definitely felt like we got our monies worth. as a sit down and order a meal restaurant i would say that’s where they shine. The menu is large, diverse, and has a lot of traditional Japanese meals. Overall this visit was OK, not great, didn’t blow me away, but didn’t turn me off either.

Visit 2:
Came for lunch to hit the sushi train. Was sat very quickly, but it was never explained to me how much the different plates cost. I know generally how it works so that’s ok but not preferred. The rolls i tried from the train were all good, i can honestly say nothing was bad. Compared to the first visit however this did not feel like a value. Knowing how much i spent compared to what I ate i was generally disappointed. Considering my first visit felt like good money spent this visit was about the opposite, however this could be due to me not knowing what the different plates cost. To be fair, i could have asked but i did not.

Overall. this place is alright. I would still go back again just due to proximity, but if i was thinking of going a further distance there are other places that i would go to first by comparison.

So many rolls!!!!! Many choices. I love the train because you can get a little bit of everything and so if you get something you don’t like , you don’t have to eat like ten rolls of them ! It’s very entertaining too, as you can watch the chefs roll the sushi ‍ . Get there right when it opens so you get a train spot or else it’s a long wait!

The food was good all the way up until the ribeye. The ribeye slices were super thin, which made them really chewy. Most Japanese restaurants typically serve filet mignon, so that was a surprise. Also, for some reason, soy sauce was used instead of teriyaki sauce. We didn’t complain and still paid and tipped well because we’re not the type to be rude—but it did end up ruining our group’s meal, which was disappointing since everything started off very yummy.

Still to this day one of the best sushi bars around the KC area. I’ve probably been going for over 20 years now. I love the sushi train setup where you grab whatever you want off of it. They charge you for each plate at the end. It’s a fun way to try new rolls without spending a ton on a whole roll. The crab stick, sex in the city roll, and calamari are probably my faves from here. Would highly recommend for a fun date night or special occasion as well.

Neat experience and a fun little lunch. We stopped in after being in the area for the day, finally giving them a try, and we enjoyed ourselves. All of the prepared sushi and small starter dishes that were placed on the train were delicious, and it was enjoyable being able to grab at will instead of waiting for a traditionally prepared roll(s). We only chose to try the sushi train and didn’t select anything off their other menu, but we plan on trying other things when we go back!
