We booked this restaurant based on its Michelin and TripAdvisor recommendations, hoping for a special birthday celebration. Unfortunately, the experience fell completely flat.
We were struck by how quiet it was—only one other table was occupied. The “birthday surprise” did little to lift the mood, feeling rushed with no candle, atmosphere, or even a name on the plate.
The food was a letdown. Excessive saltiness dominated every dish, masking the natural flavors and creating a disjointed, even bitter, experience.
Service was mixed. While staff were attentive in some ways, we were unpleasantly surprised to find a charge for the cheese plate we weren’t clearly told was an add-on.
By the end of the night, the mystery of the empty dining room was solved. Our experience perfectly explained the lack of crowd. It’s clear why this place isn’t busier. We won’t be returning.

I really enjoyed my visit at Lunch time. The food was delicious and perfectly cooked, with great attention to flavor and presentation. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, making it a lovely place to relax and enjoy a meal. Prices were reasonable for the quality, so it felt like very good value. I’d definitely recommend.

Lovely setting and atmosphere. We went here before we went to Jodrell Bank! We enjoyed our mains very much (this was at a supplementary charge to the set menu charges but this is obvious when looking at the menu), the mains were worth the additional charge. The chips were buttery and melt in your mouth. The starters – were not my favourite due to them being on the colder side but that’s a personal preference.

Been many times to this fantastic restaurant but last night stood out for the lovely, cheery Saturday night atmosphere. Just what was needed in a dreary Saturday night – a warm fire and a buzzing atmosphere. Service was fantastic as always, beautiful wine and the food was fantastic for all three of us. Particularly loved the pear clafoutis pudding and the celeriac layered delight I stole from my daughter’s plate. I love coming here, it never fails to stand out and we recognised two of the other tables who must have also travelled 40 ish minutes to get there. Well worth it. Nice to see it appealing to a range of ages.

My husband asked to go to LA POPOTE for his birthday as he had seen it mentioned on the Michelin review.

We went and had the seven course tasting menu.
I must say that the service was impeccable. The waiter so was attentive, although as there was only myself my husband and two other people in the entire restaurant that probably wasn’t a taxing shift for him.

The only thing that let the meal down was… the food.

We started with Bread and butter, the butter was salted butter and didn’t have a particularly creamy flavour. It was an average butter on some Bread.

Next an amuse-bouche, it was a cauliflower and blue cheese concoction although you couldn’t taste the blue cheese due to the overwhelming saltines of the dish.
The parsley oil was an interesting touch, but it appeared that the chefs rule was when in doubt salt it out.

Next we had the scallop dish the scallops were cooked reasonably well, not the best I’ve had, but okay.
The sauce however had chunks of cucumber and apple in a honey mustardy sauce and all of those flavours completely overwhelmed the taste of the scallops, in my humble opinion if you order a scallop dish, you should probably be able to taste the scallops and not have it drowned out by some strange French interpretation of McDonald’s burger sauce.

The rabbit came next again the meat had been cooked in a way so it fell apart with the slightest touch, very tender, but the sauce had more salt in it than a Scotsman‘s porridge!!!

Next in our culinary journey was the monkfish again the meat was cooked well, but the pumpkin seem to be un ripe and cremated on one side and once again the sauce had more salt in it than the dead sea.

We had requested the venison instead of the beef. We then later discovered this was the wrong decision. I don’t know how he managed to make a beautiful piece of venison meat taste like liver but he did.
The slice of quince or at least that what we think it was, was also cremated on one side and the thin crisps of I don’t know what that was rested above the black pudding just tasted burnt and oily.

To be fair, the desserts that we had and the additional cheeseboard were nice
the bowl that the mango sorbet was delivered in annoyed me because it kept rolling over and wouldn’t stand upright which that is more a case of form over function, and considering that the Tonka bean is banned in America for its toxicity, it didn’t really add much to the chocolate desert either.

Then the thing they do to show that it is a birthday meal instead of just a normal fleecing, is they present you with a plate that has happy birthday written in chocolate and two small cubes of brown jelly.
Unfortunately, that is the only adjectives I have for the cubes
brown in colour and rolled in sugar

I am not a chef, but I do know that a fine dining plate should allow the ingredients to dance together to create a harmonious mouth experience and I get the distinct impression that this chef has recently lost his sense of taste.

Went here for valentines day for a date with my partner and I honestly couldn’t fault it. It was on the expensive side but for the quality of the food and the service I would definitely go there again. I booked the table a week prior and was very grateful they could squeeze us in with it being valentines day. The service was beyond amazing vert attentive, myself anf my partner aren’t experienced wine drinkers so we asked our server about recommendations based on our menu choices so they grabbed I believed was the owner who went through the wine list with us and we selected a lovely bottle of red wine that paired beautifully with my partners duck breast and my fillet of beef. The atmosphere and the genral feel of the restaurant was very warm and welcoming and adds to a romantic evening with your partner. The food was clearly made with passion from a chef that is passionate about their trade and strides for perfection. We will be returning in the future and really look forward to it

A lovely venue. Great staff. From reading magazines and newspapers it seems to be always on tenterhooks as to whether or not a Michelin star is awarded to this restaurant. The food is very nice but it will never receive a Michelin star based on what I ate. I enjoyed my food though and would recommend a visit.

We went here for Valentine’s Day, which was very enjoyable. I think they are not only gastronomic gods they are also artists. The presentation was exceptional. Service relaxed and non invasive. I had the brill, and it was brilliant. Cooked perfectly. It seems like a strange location for such a classy eatery. Literarily just off the main road from Macclesfield to Congleton. Once you come through the doors, you’re warmly welcomed, and the food is well thought out and cooked superbly. I couldn’t afford to come here often, but for treats, it’s perfect.

We were staying in Goostrey for the weekend and booked this absolutely lovely restaurant for the Saturday evening.

The restaurant itself is beautiful with stunning decor and a welcoming atmosphere.

The food was delicious – I had the tuna to start and the brill for my main – I couldn’t fault it. The service was friendly and the experience exceeded expectations.

I would highly recommend this restaurant.
