I have no problem with the 20% mandatory tip, but it’s disclosed only on the check, which violates the spirit of Maryland law and should be illegal outright; I double-tipped but the card company will make it right. The bar is a tremendous concept with disappointing execution. No spoilers here but it’s lovely. Live music on weekends and good happy hour prices, but a limited menu. The $8 apiece meatballs were not great. The $15 cocktails are ostensibly “craft”, but too many great bars have sprung up to justify the visit if your goal is to sample the wet menu. And word to owner: you serve water unprompted at a cocktail bar, or be found guilty of mixology malpractice — plus fix the bathroom and hire a proofreader. Worth a visit, but hurry since their survival odds are dubious.

Went to check out this fun speakeasy style bar for happy hour and loved it! The moody atmosphere and creative staff costuming really enhanced the experience – it’s very aptly named! We got some drinks that were both fantastic and sampled the jamon Serrano chips and bacon wrapped dates – both dishes were beautifully plated and delicious. Will definitely be back!

One of the worst experiences I’ve had in a long while at an establishment. Went their on 01/23 and the space looked quite nice, I sat down at 8:00 PM and ordered a cocktail and a Garden Flatbread. I left at 9:20 PM because my food never actually showed up. My initial bartender was attentive and told me she would check three times if my food was ready, a second bartender had also asked if had been served and she mentioned she would check if my food was ready, but after waiting over an hour I decided to leave. This was a shame but the menu for the speakeasy and the attached restaurant looked interesting but I wasn’t able to eat any of it. Maybe the restaurant (Midlina) will treat you better but I wont be retuning to either establishment to find out. Food didn’t get a star because I never got to eat it.

It’s a nice place with a great atmosphere, but there was no heat and I was freezing the whole time. I wish they were a bit more considerate of their customers and turned the heat up — it honestly felt like I was sitting outside. Also, the bartenders didn’t seem to know how to make the drinks, and they never mentioned any drink specials they offer. That was disappointing, but overall the place itself is nice.

Who doesn’t love a secret speakeasy accessed through a door disguised a a bookcase? Weak and weary, we stopped in for a quick drink at this place we’d heard whispered about. The staircase, lined with ebony ravens, leads to a darkened haven of leather couches and a low-lit bar. A lone musician serenaded us as we sipped cocktails crafted by a bartender draped in black plumage–Poe’s Tears for me, Ashes to Ashes Old Fashioned for my partner (that marshmallow though!). Portraits of the man himself punctuate the brick interior like ghoulish relics. We visited in Halloween season, but I have the feeling the eerie decor is year-round. Can’t wait to find out.

This place was great! It has an incredible atmosphere with decor that really brings the Poe theme to life. I also have to compliment the service. Michelle was an absolutely excellent cocktail waitress that made the evening that much more enjoyable!
