Located in Idylwood Plaza, Mumbai Central is beautifully designed, inspired by Mumbai’s Grand Train Station. The space is spacious, stylish, and inviting, striking a great balance between classic Indian elements and a modern, elegant atmosphere. It’s a place that immediately feels special without being over the top.
We ordered a wide variety of dishes and essentially turned dinner into a full-on tasting experience. For appetizers, we had the Mumbai Coastal Shrimp, Chicken Momos, Chili Garlic Noodles, Pani Puri, and Lamb Chops—each one packed with flavor and beautifully presented. For entrées, we shared Tandoori Chicken, Lamb Vindaloo, Chana Masala, and Biryani, along with Butter Naan and Mint Paratha, all of which were excellent and well-balanced.
Dessert was just as strong, with Gulab Jamun, Kulfi Falooda, and Masala Chai closing out the meal perfectly. On the cocktail side, we tried the Smoky Engine, Mumbai to Goa, and Coolie No. 1, all creative, well-crafted, and a great complement to the food.
From start to finish, the experience was fantastic—great cocktails, outstanding food, and excellent service from everyone who took care of us. The ambiance is warm and welcoming, making it a place you’d want to return to, whether for a special occasion or a relaxed dinner.
Yes, we ordered a lot of food—but nothing went to waste. Everything was just as delicious the next day, which says a lot about the quality.
Mumbai Central is a welcome addition to the area, and it’s definitely a place we’ll be coming back to.
We started with Kamal Kakdi Chaat, which was very unique and packed with flavor. The Chicken Malai Tikka was incredibly soft and creamy, easily one of the best starters we tried. For the main course we ordered Chicken Biryani, Malabari Chicken, and Naan, and everything tasted authentic and delicious. The biryani was aromatic and the Malabari chicken paired perfectly with the naan.
The drinks were also excellent. The Smokey Engine had a really nice smoky flavor that made it stand out, and the Old Fashion was smooth and well balanced.
For desserts we had Kulfi Falooda and Molten Chocolate Cake, which were both amazing and the perfect way to end the meal.
What really stood out during the evening was the hospitality. Karthik Sharma, the manager, was incredibly friendly and engaging. He took time to check in with our table, chat with us, and made sure our birthday celebration went smoothly. His warmth and attention made the whole experience feel very welcoming and memorable.
The staff overall were very respectful and attentive throughout the night, which added to the great experience.
Overall, the food, drinks, ambience, and service were all excellent.
We kicked things off with some fantastic appetizers: the dhokla chaat was bursting with tangy, spicy flavors, the papad was perfectly crisp, the salted lassi was refreshing and spot on, and the pani puri was a delightful explosion of taste. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and delicious!
For the main course, we went all in: warm garlic naan and chilli naan that were soft, buttery, and addictive; creamy saag paneer packed with rich spinach and perfectly spiced paneer; indulgent paneer makhni with its silky tomato gravy; and the surprising standout garlic noodles that were amazingly savory and well balanced. Every dish was executed beautifully, authentic Indian flavors with just the right heat and depth.
We wrapped up with a cozy masala chai that hit all the right spiced notes, a classic fruit custard that was light and refreshing, and an unexpected treat in the molten lava cake, gooey, chocolatey perfection!
The ambiance is truly unique and immersive: the restaurant is themed like an Indian train station, with seating that makes you feel like you’re dining on a train. Such a fun, creative touch that transported us right to Mumbai. It added so much charm and made the whole meal feel special.
Service was impeccable, attentive, friendly, and efficient from start to finish. Our server made sure everything was just right, and the pacing was perfect for a relaxed family meal.
If you’re in the Falls Church area and craving elevated Indian cuisine in a memorable setting, Mumbai Central is a must visit. We left happy, full, and already planning our next trip back. 5 stars all the way!
The food was excellent. The Chicken Malai Tikka was very soft, juicy, and full of flavor. The Kamal Kakdi Chaat was crispy and perfectly balanced. The Smoky Engine drink was a highlight — the hickory chips gave it a rich smoky flavor that tasted amazing. We ended with Kulfi Falooda, which is our all-time favorite and it was absolutely delicious.
A special mention to our server Mintu — he was very friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was perfect for us. The service overall was excellent and very responsive.
Highly recommend this place for both the food and the experience!
Super duper nice!! It made my dads day and he loved it! I def recommend coming here for celebrations!
I would recommend getting a bunch of items to share- I will definitely be going back!
I’ve also had their tandoori chicken on a previous visit, and it was excellent—juicy, well-spiced, and fresh out of the bhatti. Their chilli-garlic naan was the perfect pairing. The ajwain paneer tikka was another highlight; the paneer was soft, fresh, and creamy, like it had been made in-house.
What really sets this place apart is the staff. Despite how busy they get, everyone is kind, professional, and genuinely warm. That combination of excellent food and great hospitality is hard to find.
This restaurant is a 100-mile trip for me, and honestly? I’d make it every weekend if I could. That’s how good it is. Highly recommend.
I love stopping by for masala chai on cold winter days, and their cocktails are perfect in the summer. The samosas, chili garlic noodles, pani puri, and kamal kakdi chaat are my all-time favorites. I’ve also tried several of their entrées, and every single one has been excellent.
I also really enjoy the music selection. It’s calm, thoughtfully chosen, and never interferes with conversation.
The flavors are always spot-on, the service is warm and attentive, and it’s a place I keep coming back to without hesitation.
