Tycoon Flats is another one of those places that comes up in ‘best San Antonio burger’ conversations or lists. And after trying it I thought it was… okay. I’m a sucker for variety so I got the specialty sliders trio. Perhaps I should’ve stuck with more of a simple burger but what’s life without mixing it up sometimes (but not too much… come on now). My trio included the fried avocado, BBQ bacon, and roasted garlic burgers. I did appreciate the creative specialty burger offerings – and there were a few more I would’ve been intrigued by if I was into blue cheese. (I’ve tried to like that feet-tasting funk but can’t do it.) In the pictures on the menu, the burger patties have a from-the-freezer look to me, but in real life the patties looked freshly handmade. I don’t know if that’s some weird attempt to underpromise but I was pleasantly surprised. Now, everyone of these sliders had some good flavor but they were all dry. Not West Texas tumbleweed dry, but noticeably dry. Maybe Medina Lake dry. Dry enough that condiments and toppings couldn’t save it. If you’ve learned anything along the burger trail, it should be that juicy = flavor. So these get a C for flavor. Unfortunately the service was right in line with the flavor with infrequent visits to the table, tea that was thrown out before closing, and waiting for a check. It’s a cool spot but I can’t say anything is drawing me back. Cheers to Tycoon Flats for coming up with some off-the-beaten-path signature burgers!

On of my favorite places for lunch. Great portions and worth the price. I like to get the nachos with beef and chicken and no jalapeños. Never have finished it but tried on multiple occasions. My daughter loves the fried pickles.

I was looking for a burger while on Austin Hwy, I haven’t been in the area in nearly a decade. I initially thought Bun & Barrel. The lights were on but no one was home!

I then stumbled upon Tycoon Flats where the Purple Garlic used to be. I said why not! The food was good and the service was great! Antonio had amazing timing, he knew the menu and was extremely friendly!

The playlist was amazing

I’ll be back!

I’ve been to the other Tycoon Flats location multiple times, and this new Austin Highway spot doesn’t disappoint. The environment is even better, but it still keeps that same familiar vibe. The staff is great and welcoming.

This was my first time bringing my wife, and we both ordered the specialty sliders deal. I forgot to mention to her that their “sliders” are actually just regular-sized burgers, so we ended up with six full burgers between us, hahahaha. All the food was above expectations, and every app and side we tried was amazing.

It’s not the cheapest spot, but it’s absolutely worth it. Honestly, each sliders deal could easily feed three people.

Main food: Apple Bacon, Bacon Balsamic, Feta Cranberry, Benedict, Fried Avocado, and Tex-Mex sliders.
Sides & apps: Fried mushrooms, fried pickles, and fries.
The ranch was spot-on, and my Arnold Palmer was excellent.

I was told that this place was voted best burger in San Antonio. So when a family member wanted to try it I said “challenge accepted!”. When walking it we loved the vibes. It had a nice outdoor seating that was completely covered with fans to keep us cool. They also had a nice small play area for kiddos. It a spot I can see myself hanging out for hours.

Now for the food. They have tons of unique takes on burgers on the menu. As I say in previous reviews when it comes to burgers I usually get the with a cheese plain and dry…maybe some bacon. Only because if you can’t wow me with just the beef anything you put on it is only gonna help a little…just my opinion of course. To be honest, it was a good burger. I got the Flats Cheeseburger with bacon. It’s a thicker patty at 1/2 lbs so it’s a big boy. Though it was juicy and the bun/bacon was really good the burger needed some love. Felt like it was minimally seasoned so I had to put some salt on it. It was good just need a little more. The fries on the other hand were beautifully seasoned and delicious. My old lady got the fried avocado burger though she enjoyed it she thought the same as me about the beef. The chicken tenders were really good as well. At the end of the day I had a great time and I will definitely come back again and try other things from the menu. If you happened to be in the area come check it out.

Great customer service, was quickly seated. Very clean area. I had the grilled peach and chopped salad, this was one of the best salads I have ever had, everything complemented each other so well. Overall great experience

First time to this location. Always loved them at their St Mary’s location. Service and food were as good as we remembered. My wife had the old fashioned tyke burger with a salad and I had the 1/2 hot pastrami panini with a salad. Salads nice and crispy and both our sandwiches were hot and favorable . We will definitely be back soon .

I had a cheeseburger with cheddar and a tortilla soup, and a side of wings lightly tossed in honey bbq sauce. The burger was cooked well and tasted good 7/10, the tortilla soup was really good and flavorful 8/10, and the wings were good, cooked just right 8/10. The waiting staff was very friendly and the place was very clean and felt very comfortable. My food came pretty timely as well. My overall experience was 8/10. Sorry, I did not include the burger and soup but it went down so fast! I was Hangry!

I have been wanting to try the Austin Highway Location of Tycoon Flats ever since I saw that it was coming soon. Today my friend and decided to come in and try their Bloody Mary’s and whatever else.

Our server, Amber, greeted us immediately upon sitting. We ordered Spicy Bloody Mary’s made with Tito’s. Yum! We then ordered a basket of fried pickles and a basket of Tater tots. Both fabulous. Tater tots nice and crispy and the fried pickles were thinly sliced with excellent flavor. We added a hot pastrami sandwich to round it out. It melds the flavors wonderfully.

Excellent service. Nice ambiance outside. Surprisingly cool in the Texas heat as the owners had the foresight to install lots of fans.

Definitely will come again.

The burgers were ok, nothing special. The chicken tortilla soup was flavorless, the wings just tasted like oil. The server was new but she was nice, the guy training her asked about the food since most of the wings were still on the plate and the soup was still full. We told him about the flavor of the soup and wings, he just said “really? that’s weird.” then handed me the card reader to pay. We payed for everything and left. We won’t be going back. The only picture I took was of a nice Wagoneer outside.
