I have never had a bad meal there. It is a very diverse menu too. The Fettuccine Bolognese is delicious, one of my favorites. You can’t go wrong with any of the soups that they make, they are all top notch. The dessert’s and freshly ground coffee are just that, fresh, robust and wonderful.
What I love that takes it to the next level, no paper placemats here, the table is covered with 2 tablecloths. Very elegant and a fine dining experience. I very highly recommend this restaurant.
The experience started poorly with the host. She was noticeably unfriendly and carried an unnecessary attitude. I was subjected to an awkward back-and-forth to confirm the reservation name, made to feel as though I were being dishonest rather than a paying guest.
The food did little to recover the evening. Due to an alleged limited menu because of a show at the Warner Theater, my preferred choice wasn’t available. I reluctantly ordered the linguine with clam sauce, which was less a sauce and more a thin, watery soup—hardly what one would expect from a proper Italian dish.
Adding insult to injury, the restaurant ran out of bourbon after our first round. On a Friday night, early in the evening, this is baffling. How a restaurant fails to stock a basic staple like bourbon is beyond me. If necessity is the issue, a quick run to a package store would have been an obvious solution.
The lone bright spot of the night was our server, who was pleasant and professional throughout. Frankly, I felt sympathy for her, knowing she’d likely have to explain the bourbon shortage to every disappointed guest who followed us.
Overall, the experience was disappointing and poorly managed, save for the efforts of our server.
The veal Parmesan was heavily coated and soggy. The “side” Caesar salad was just okay for an additional $10!!! I knew there was an up charge but was not expecting $10. I got a dirty martini but wouldn’t recommend cocktails from there. Maybe just a glass of wine.
The atmosphere is very old and cheesy. It smells like my grandmas house. They could definitely use some updating.
Will I go back? Probably not.
Change my service review because they responded so nicely. I will give them another chance.
It all began with the owner greeting us at the door and truly welcoming us to her restaurant. Her greeting and infectious smile made each of us feel welcomed.
She proceeded to talk to us like we were old friends and made us feel like we were her special guests.
I’m not very good at describing the details of each course, but here’s a quick run down.
Usually when salads come with the meal, I can expect a couple of iceberg lettuce leafs, some carrot shavings and a cheap oil and vinegar mix. Not here. I was given a dinner size salad with mixed greens and veggies and a homemade balsamic dressing with crumbled bleu cheese. About three tablespoons of bleu cheese -delicious!
My entree was one of the specials. Cavatappi pasta with a selection of imported mushrooms, sweet Italian sausage and bits of cauliflower all mixed in a delicious sauce of what seemed to be onions, garlic and olive oil, and probably some other special ingredients. Not heavy on anything except flavor. The owner would stop by just to say hello, see how we were enjoying our meals and tell stories about the restaurant and bring more bread. Bread! You gotta try this bread, fresh baked, warm and amazing!
Deserts were crazy good. I’ll let you see when you visit.
All in all, we can’t wait to go back. The owner also told us about their pre-fixe weekday meals, $35 gets you a three course complete meal!
You gotta try this place!
It is located in the heart of Torrington and walking distance to other bars and restaurants.
The new owners have definitely honored the traditional Italian food that has kept this a local landmark.
Staff friendly, plenty of parking.
We ordered food and told our waiter we have a show to watch after since we were seated late and they promised up and down that the food will be out way before then.
The food never came. The side salad our entrees came with had the incorrect dressing and we didn’t get a single refill of water.
We told the manager with the black glasses that we can’t wait any longer for the food since it been over an hour. She initially tried to blame us for being late when it was them who seated us late? Then said that she can’t make the cook cook faster. She was happy to report that she took off the food of our bill before we paid for our drinks. I would sure hope so since we never received it ???
Even though we never got our food, this place is so poorly run that I would never trust how they prepare their food. Avoid this place at all cost.
