Prime & Providence in West Des Moines truly made my birthday feel incredibly special from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, the experience felt thoughtful and elevated — even down to the custom menu with my name on it, which was such a memorable and personal touch.
Jade was our server and she was absolutely exceptional. Attentive, warm, and perfectly paced throughout the evening, she made us feel celebrated without ever feeling rushed.
The food was outstanding. The ribeye was cooked to perfection — rich, flavorful, and exactly what you hope for at a steakhouse of this caliber. The surf and turf was equally impressive, beautifully presented and delicious. And the butter candle? Such a fun and indulgent detail that added a unique flair to the entire dining experience.
As someone who truly appreciates hospitality and well-executed experiences, this dinner was a standout.
An unforgettable birthday dinner with incredible service, beautiful ambiance, and food that absolutely delivered. Highly recommend for a special occasion or just a fun night out!

Absolutely blown away by one of the best dining experiences in Iowa — and honestly, anywhere. From start to finish, everything was exceptional.

We ordered the Samurai Wagyu flight and it was absolutely incredible, perfectly cooked, beautifully presented, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The fresh oysters were crisp and flavorful, clearly high quality and expertly prepared. The truffle risotto was rich, creamy, and packed with flavor.

The drinks were amazing and crafted to perfection, and we ended the night with crème brûlée that had the perfect caramelized top and silky custard underneath.

The service, atmosphere, and attention to detail made the whole evening feel special. If you’re looking for a top-tier date night or celebration spot in Iowa, this is it. We’ll definitely be back!

Prime and Providence is a destination. They exemplify all the best aspects of hospitality. Chef Dominic’s creativity really shines through on the well-rounded menu. If you’re willing to forgo control or the need for expectations to be fulfilled I strongly suggest you have an open dialogue with the staff and let them curate your dining experience. We had the most delicate and beautiful flavor profiles presented in a way that accompanied and complimented each other throughout the meal. They don’t miss here. From the cocktails to the mocktails to the starters to the main courses, everything is punching well above its weight. My personal recommendation is to speak about your preferences with your serving staff. Develop a rapport. And let them curate your meal. But if you want to know what one item I loved more than anything else on the menu. The New York strip flight and the Samurai will satiate any pallet from novice to experienced. Although I live several thousand miles away I have no doubt in my mind I will be coming back just to visit an experienced this culinary presentation once more.

First time visiting, no special occasion, just a nice dinner. Initial impression was organized, clean and professional. Staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. Menu was refreshing fresh and a nice twist on the traditional steak house. I ordered a steak which had a little extra flavor due to the coal fire style. Michelle talked me into trying the carrots. Not at all what I expected and so happy with them. Such an amazingly curious flavor. So happy! Definitely will be back for explore more flavors.

This is a fantastic restaurant, particularly by Des Moines standards. I’ve eaten there three times, and my family are regulars. Every meal here will be fantastic. Our absolute favorite dish is the lasagnatolo side (which we get as an app). Our other family favorites are the filet, starter bread, starter bacon dish, and the oatmeal cream pie for dessert. My only mild complaint is that the steak cookery can be a bit inconsistent (relative to the prices and otherwise quality of restaurant). However, that very small negative does not come close to the immense positives. Special shoutout to the fabulous service.

Beautiful atmosphere and attentive service. We tried almost all the appetizers and 6 steak and 3 desserts. Everyone did notice a strong odor during the meal like fish sauce which was distracting the whole experience, some dishes didn’t quite match to the high price point. The bacon appetizer and turf & turf were excellent the rest are avg. I’d be happy to come back for a smaller meal or if there were special offers, as there’s a lot of potential here.

Celebrated an anniversary here. Cannot recommend it enough. The food was insane, our server Jaime went above and beyond and provided amazing recommendations, and the vibe altogether was really comfortable. It’s a lil pricey, but it’s genuinely worth the money- especially for a special night. I’ll definitely be back!

I would recommend reservations if you have a particular time in mind. We made a reservation & it worked very well. Seems like a very popular spot that stays busy.

I took my wife here tonight for our 14th anniversary dinner. The food was amazing, the staff was very professional and pleasant, and they went above and beyond to help us celebrate by having custom menus printed and decorating the table for us.

They took their time to explain all of the different menu options and were patient with us while we asked all the questions.

Highly recommend, pricey, but great Wagyu beef selections and a very extensive wine list. Recommend reservations if it’s a special occasion!

My new favorite steakhouse! Service and food were both incredible. Worth a visit to West Des Moines. Visiting from out of town, wish I lived closer! Will definitely be back.

Spending Valentine’s Day at Prime and Providence may have been the best decision we’ve made so far in 2026. This is at least the fifth time we’ve been here but we always find a new favorite dish and the place has never disappointed us in any way. We were delighted to be seated in the front dining room and enjoyed singular service from Jamie, bartender Matt, and a team of others who had just the right mix of timing (at the table enough but not too much). We appreciated Jamie’s honest opinions on our orders and, though we went home with some leftovers, she kept us from ordering way too much. Cocktails were the best they’ve been so far–from a simple dirty martini, to the complex Valentine’s Day featured drink, to the just-creative-enough “Espressojillo”–and the lobsterscargot appetizer is not to be missed. Risotto, lasagnatolo, and beet salads were so good we could’ve gone home delighted and satisfied without ordering entrees. But of course we indulged in ribeyes, scallops, and Dom Iannerelli’s rendition of the Des Moines classic, steak de burgo and were further blown away.

A night at Prime and Providence is expensive for all and likely a small investment for some, but it’s a night that’s as special and memorable as you’ll find in Iowa, and in any city this place would be a major player. It’s recent accolades in USA Today are well-deserved and the high-end chains in Des Moines (Ruth’s Chris, Fleming’s, 801 Steak and Chop) absolutely have their hands full with this local powerhouse. It’s simply made the Des Moines metro a better place to live.
