If you’re anywhere near Smithfield, NC and you don’t stop at Aye Guey Modern Mexican Cuisine, you’re doing life wrong. This place is flat-out fantastic, a perfect balance of bold flavors, modern vibe, and legit hospitality that makes you feel like you just discovered the area’s next big food obsession.

The food? Unreal. Every plate comes out looking like it’s auditioning for a magazine cover, and then the first bite hits you with layers of flavor that prove this kitchen isn’t just cooking, they’re crafting. The tortillas are on point, the protein is perfectly seasoned, and the salsas have that “wake up your taste buds” kick without blowing them off your face.
The drinks deserve their own spotlight. The margaritas are smooth, bright, and dangerously easy to keep ordering. Not sugary, not artificial, just clean, crisp, and exactly what you want with authentic modern Mexican cuisine.

Inside, the atmosphere is vibrant without being loud, cool, modern, and stylish, but with that welcoming energy that makes you want to stay for another round. The staff is on it from the moment you sit down. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely proud of what they serve, which they should be.

Bottom line: Aye Guey is the real deal. This is the place you bring friends to impress, the place you detour for on road trips, and the place you’ll crave again the moment you leave. Smithfield didn’t just get another restaurant, they got a destination.

Do not sleep on this spot. Go. Order. Enjoy. And thank me later…

Omg the food was excellent, I’m from the north east and I wish we had one up north. We had a big party of 12 and the service was very good and the food was served quickly. Everyone enjoyed their dish. My drink was great

Server was outstanding to start, they slowly went downhill. Unfortunately if you have eaten at other Mexican restaurants, the food is bland. The steak was very dry, no seasoning. Rice was, not bad. Both dishes looked fancy, but lacked in seasoning and flavor.

Really nice atmosphere. I think they did a very good job with the aesthetics and layout. The food was great. The Jalisco Steak was very good. Shrimp didn’t really taste like anything but go figure that’s shrimp for you. Kids enjoyed there meals as well. Very large menu so be prepared to be conflicted about what you want to try next. I look forward to going back.

We were excited to try this restaurant out. Sady, the food was disappointing. There were 3 of us eating.

One of us got the grilled chicken fajitas. The fajitas were very greasy. I couldn’t eat it but for a few bites. I didn’t like the taste of their refried beans and the rice was bland.

The second one was called a El Paisano. It was a t-bone with grilled veggies and you get 2 sides as well as corn or flour tortillas. The steak was good but it wasn’t cook medium rare as asked. Also, with the veggies, they were very wet so if you tried to make a fajitas with it, it will be very drippy and make a mess.

The third person got a taco mix, one arrchera taco, carne asada, and a shrimp taco. They chose corn torillas. Before they could even pick the first taco up, the shell completely fell apart as well as with the other two tacos. It ended up being very messy.

Our server, Ashley, was great! Unfortunately, we will not be back.

We stopped on the way to Florida with low expectations. And we had a surprise: Nice atmosphere- place is fairly new, great service and even better food! We had taco Al pastor and taco birria, best since we’ve been to Mexico! Strongly recommend if you’re close by. And it is close to 95. And the Ay Guey margarita is excellent too…if you’re not the driver….

Note: we went back a week later, ordered the same dishes: still good but not as good as first time. I’m not sure why the quality is not consistent, maybe different cook, different meat…We’ll be back, just to find out what is what And we hope for the best!

Yes yes absolutely yesssss this was amazing. We got chorizo tacos and it was NOT GREASY which says a lot because some places are dripping. We also got fish & shrimp in Diablo sauce which was FINGER LICKING GOOD! Not to mild spice with a hint of acidity. OMGSHHHH

Definitely coming back for sure

We tried this restaurant for the first time and didn’t really know what to expect and didn’t have high hopes since there hadn’t been a restaurant there for years. To our surprise, it was spectacular! At Güey’s atmosphere was incredible, clean, upbeat, the food was fantastic, the service was great, and the drinks were amazing!!! Great place to take your family, for a date night, or girls night out! Overall a great experience. I highly recommend trying it if you haven’t.

Based on my experience, I’ve seen that the portions are small for their price. Chicken lacks a bit of flavor, the camarónes a la diabla were a 10/10. The sweat tea taste like more water than sweet tea but it was still drinkable, it took a while for my order to be taken but the food came fast. The tortillas was handmade and the rice was delicious. The ceviche on tostadas tasted bland maybe a different brand of tostada would make it better Overall this place is very elegant and nice to eat at.
