Visited Yunomi Handroll recently with my wife, and we really enjoyed trying something new. It feels like handroll spots are becoming a big trend in downtown LA these days, and this place is definitely part of that wave. Yunomi has even received recognition from the Michelin Guide, so we were pretty excited to check it out.

When we arrived, the place was already packed and people were waiting for seats. The setup is bar-style dining, and the rolls are made right in front of you, which is pretty fun. The flavor was good overall—fresh, clean, and a bit unique in its own way—but maybe because I had high expectations from the Michelin feature, it didn’t quite exceed what I imagined. Still, everything was solid and enjoyable.

Like many spots in downtown LA, the prices felt a bit on the higher side. Also, parking in this area is tough. They do offer valet, but it’s not cheap. If you plan ahead and find street parking early, you can save a bit.

Overall, good food, trendy vibe, and a nice experience trying something new—just be prepared for parking challenges and slightly higher prices.

I have visited Yunomi like 7 times and it was never disappointing. They are making good tempura which is the reason I always get the Rock shrimp tempura. Also the Sunomono(cucumber salad) is good for appetizer too(I uploading lots of pic of them lol). For the handroll, Yunomi special, Unagi, Scallop, Tuna are fire! Don’t forget join waitlist through yelp before you arrive. It is usually crowded during lunch or dinner time.

I heard good things about Yunomi and I was looking for a new restaurant to try with a friend and we came here! We got the 3-roll combo because we are both broke college students and felt like this was a good combination that could allow us to sample some of the options.

The tuna was fairly unmemorable but the quality of the fish was solid. The salmon was buttery and had a very clean bite, which was probably my favorite roll. I liked the crispiness of the tempura and the contrast with the cucumber, but it was a little batter heavy.

Overall, it was a little pricey for how much food it was but 3 rolls was sufficiently filling for me.

First time at Yunomi and it definitely won’t be the last!

The atmosphere is modern with a great sense of style — clean, welcoming! I tried a few hand rolls, and every single one was incredibly fresh and flavorful. The Negi Toro and Yunomi Special were absolute standouts — seriously, next-level good.

The staff were super friendly and made the experience even better with some pleasant, casual conversation. It’s the kind of place where you instantly feel comfortable.

Highly recommend if you’re into quality food and a chill vibe. Will definitely be coming back soon!

January 2026 – Made a reservation. Since there’s a time limit on the seating and wait times can be long, I highly recommend making a reservation. Overall I would come back if I feel like dealing with the parking situation.

Food/Pricing – Spicy Albacore Crispy Rice $16 – if you do not enjoy fried onion, this dish may not be for you as they do add hella onion on top of the albacore but I do enjoy the taste of it so I loved this dish.

Six Handroll Set $30 – tuna, albacore, salmon, yellowtail, scallop, shrimp tempura. All solid and we ordered all of them spicy, which honestly was not spicy at all but just had a very slight kick.

Service/Ambiance – quick and friendly service.

Parking – Paid a crazy amount to park across the street. The rate was like $4 for every 15 minutes. Try your best to find street parking.

I visited Yunomi Handroll on a Sunday around lunchtime, and while some elements of the meal were enjoyable, the overall experience left a lot to be desired.

To start with the positives: the Unagi was flavorful and well-prepared—tender, with just the right amount of sweetness and char. The fried shrimp appetizer was another highlight: crispy, hot, and perfectly seasoned. Service at the counter was fast and efficient once we were seated, and the food came out quickly.

Unfortunately, getting to that point was a whole ordeal. Parking was a nightmare, and once we arrived, there was a wait to be seated despite I got waitlisted 45 minutes ago. Once seated, we found the seating to be very uncomfortable—tight spacing, stiff stools, and a general lack of comfort that made it hard to settle in and enjoy the meal. For a place where you’re meant to sit and eat rolls fresh as they come out, the setup felt rushed and cramped.

Bottom line: Yunomi has some tasty menu items, particularly the Unagi and fried shrimp, and the kitchen moves fast—but the logistics and environment make it hard to recommend, especially on a busy weekend. If you go, consider visiting at an off-hour and prepare to eat quickly.

Incredible handroll specialty restaurant. Amazing choice of beers and sake. Loved the appetizers and our favorite handroll was the yunomi special. Bar seating only, but a wonderful experience. Decently priced for the quality of food and atmosphere provided. Lovely place for specialty occasions and birthdays.

Wowza! Been traveling for a month and this was the best food I’ve had during the trip. Absolutely delicious appetizers and hand rolls. Everything we ate was 10/10. They also have an exhaustive list of beers and sake. Will absolutely come back on my next visit to LA.

Handrolls are sizeable and pretty dang spectacular. Service is friendly and top notch. The only thing that sucks here is the seating if you are short. No where to put your feet so they just uncomfortably dangle while your legs go numb LOL and the tiny bar stool was much smaller than my butt. Other than that, just get in my tummy and take my money!
