We’ve made it a habit to dine at Grassa every time we visit Portland (about four times a year), and it’s usually something we look forward to. Unfortunately, this most recent visit was very disappointing.

We ordered the squid ink spaghetti, and while the flavor itself was almost okay, it was more disappointing most of the clams were empty. Out of the dish, fewer than 20% of the clams actually had meat (only about 5–6 pieces), which really took away from the experience and felt unacceptable for the price.

We also tried the black truffle pappardelle, which was overly oily, quite bland, and lacked any noticeable truffle flavor. It didn’t live up to expectations at all.

The garlic bread was the highlight of the meal — it was great — but even that felt overpriced for what it was.

We’ve had many good meals here in the past (5 years and brought family/friends), which makes this experience especially disappointing. We hope this was an off night, but it definitely didn’t reflect the quality we’ve come to expect. We’re encouraged by their rapid expansion, but worry they might lose what made them great – flavor.

Can’t beat this fresh pasta on the go local chain. They have amazing salads that are seasonal and well sourced on top of amazing seasonal pasta options that have vegetarians clamoring for more! I’ve never had a bad meal here and I’ve always had great service so this is a win-win in every regard. The atmosphere is always clean and cool and there’s indoor and outdoor seating which makes this a nice seasonal stop no matter the season.

Food is amazing here! Portions are smallish, but reasonably priced and very high quality. Buy a few dishes and share, so many good ones to try. The cocktails and Italian sodas are great. Worth a visit and worth going back.

Holy 5-alarm fire! I got the Fusiili ala Vodka, which I know is supposed to have some heat, but this one —- it’s like the cap fell off the jar of chili flakes! I still loved it – the pasta was perfectly cooked, the pork shoulder was bursting with great spices, but I was still facially sweating through the whole meal. We got their Caesar salad too, which was excellent, not too much dressing and just the right amount of anchovies. The real deal, and helped cool off my lips.
Grassa has their counter service food model down pat, and the meals come out fairly quick, fresh and hot, so thumbs up there. Service is up and down, depending on how slammed they are, but I give them a pass since they do do aLOT of takeout orders and are not meant to be table service. Love that they have beer, wine and some cocktails too.
This location works well for all the reasons stated above, but we often get our food to go — the ambiance here is not that great. Strip-mall -modern-meets industrial in a cold, cavernous space does not make you want to linger. No thanks.

Great place. Pasta was awesome, staff were friendly, and the handmade items were super good. Bathrooms were clean, and the atmosphere was really relaxing. Nothing to improve on in my book. You need to park in the parking garage and walk to the restaraunt, FYI. Pics attached.

This establishment is an enjoyable and well-maintained restaurant. While the overall quality of the food is satisfactory, there were a few minor inconsistencies observed in the preparation of the pasta dishes. It’s worth noting that during multiple visits, I encountered variations in the texture and moisture levels of the pasta, with a drier outcome on the second occasion.

On a positive note, the restaurant offers a child-friendly menu selection that is sure to please young diners. The beverage offerings are of commendable quality, and the restaurant’s location is conveniently situated.

Food was good, we ordered the hazelnut squash dish…it was okay. The thick texture of the squash just didn’t feel right with the thickness of the yogurt it all just felt too like too much in the mouth and the stretching of the prosciutto, it was a lot of texture that didn’t feel good to eat together. Now the noise. As soon as you walk in there’s somebody off to the right listening to music, you walk up to the counter and the kitchen has their music choice blasting then when you go to sit down the speakers are also blasting music. So all 3 very different types of music are blending together and it just made my pasta dish feel ok, I just wanted to get out of there

huge fan of grassa. They have awesome kids pasta options at a really reasonable price and it’s handmade pasta. My kids devour the meatballs and the Mac and cheese. My 6yo loves the chop salad with salami as well. They have lots of crayons and coloring pages avail as well while the food is prepared

They clearly care about their food. Pasta was excellent, but all the options were pretty heavy, and it would have been nice to get some lighter options with pasta. Kinda pricey, but not compared to the quality of the plate. Spring shrimp scampi was flavorful, but I wish the shrimp hadn’t been battered and deep fried.

I have come here a few times. I have a day off to myself. I go to the movies and go get a salad/veg and try a new pasta. I have been helped by the same gentlemen each time. He is lovely and always makes conversation. The food is always excellent and makes two meals for me. I watch my podcasts and enjoy a nice meal for a great price!
Thanks to the staff!
