Mary Gibbs Cafe is an open timber-framed building that fits beautifully into nature’s surroundings. Its interior is spacious with tables available for family dining. The outdoor patio has many covered tables to protect diners from sun or showers.
I highly recommend their chicken wild rice soup in a cream base. The kids enjoyed their hamburgers and hotdogs – especially the ability to add condiments that suited their preferences.
Individually packaged muffins, scones, and other bakes goods are ideal to purchase and take on walking hikes and canoe rides.
They make excellent teas and the coffee is okay.
The cafe has been thoughtfully created to provide drinking water fountains by the trail to the Mississippi headwaters, waste disposal, and excellent, instructional signage.
Service was beyond a 10 out of 10. Both the lady taking orders and the lady filling orders were multitasking with smiles. I chatted with the couple behind us in line; we agreed that the service is remarkable.
The entrance has a huge covered area that has a museum-like quality that tells the story of the Mississippi River’s exploration.
We came back a second time just for ice cream treats – they have a great selection of flavors.

During my stay in Itasca State Park, I went twice to the Mary Gibbs Cafe. I had the ” Lady Slipper” sandwich on the first visit and it was incredible!!! Fresh, great flavor. My friend got the Wild Rice Soup and said it was the best she has had. We went back the next day and I tried the Chickpea Curry Wrap, with a Dirty Chai Iced. Everything was wonderful! My friend did the Wild Rice Soup again and tried a Blueberry Scone. She enjoyed the scone and a worker offered to heat it up for her. The staff is friendly, asking if you are enjoying your time at the park, engaged with their jobs. The building is beautiful, with many windows and outside seating and very clean. I would definitely go back!

More of a classy truck stop than a true Cafe. Think along the lines of the pre-made wraps and salads you get at Loves or Pilot.
Not too say it’s bad, just a bit overpriced for what you get.
The atmosphere however is pretty nice as you are located in a state Park and eating al fresco in such a place is nice. As is the fireplace, for those who brave the park in winter.
If you don’t plan ahead and bring your own picnic, Mary Gibbs isn’t a terrible option, just an expensively meh one.

If you ate breakfast before you came to Itasca State Park you missed out. The cafe has an excellent breakfast burrito choose either sausage or bacon inside this sizeable cheesy eggs, peppers, and tortilla. Seriously this thing has to be pushing a pound! Pair with your favorite breakfast beverage.

Brenda was so nice! She offered tastes of the ice cream before deciding on the mint chocolate chip, birthday cake, & monster cookie scoops. $3.50 for one scoop & $4.50 for two scoops on cake cones or in a cup. Great indoor and outdoor seating. Food looked reasonably priced but just had dessert this time. Friendly staff all around and clean café; will stop here again when visiting.

A nice shop with sandwiches, hand scooped ice cream and other snacks/treats. Located within the Mary Gibbs visitor center. There are bathrooms nearby and a large patio. The Headwaters of the Mississippi is a couple hundred feet away. Large parking lot nearby.

We visited Itasca and the headwaters with a toddler and baby and loved having this cafe to stop at before and after our water adventure. The food was typical deli style, the coffee was amazing, and the ice cream was a fun treat to end the day. Highly recommend!

Had a muffaletta which was surprisingly good, especially once I had them warm it up. My wife had a curried chickpea wrap which was tasty and nicely flavored. Dirty Chai for a bit of sweet energy. Great find in a state park. Also the staff were incredibly nice and helpful!!!
