My husband has eaten a lot of lamb shanks and the lamb shank at Mazzat tops them all. Not only was it a really good deal for all of the food you get but also the meat was fall apart tender and such good flavor. Would definitely recommend and we will be back!

This place is an absolute gem if you’re into bold, delicious Mediterranean food. I’m still thinking about the samosas which are crispy on the outside, perfectly spiced filling on the inside. Seriously, I could eat a whole plate of those and call it a day.
But the kebabs are next level. Juicy, tender, and loaded with flavor whether you go chicken, beef, or lamb, you’re in for something amazing. They come out sizzling and smell incredible.
The vibe is chill, the staff is welcoming, and everything tasted super fresh. The atmosphere is not aesthetically appealing and the seating is limited, good for takeout. Don’t skip it!

Our place to go when we visit Portland. The food is always hot and fresh and takes you to places you’ve never been! Kitchen is always clean and tidy. Staff are super attentive, prices are great, we sometimes find ourselves eating there twice in a day. If you’ve never tried shwarma, you are missing out. Their menu has plenty variety to enjoy and the staff will customize to your liking. By far a gem to the area.

My wife and I happened upon the Mazzat Restaurant tonight and it was lovely. Before we even made it in the door, the owner showed his kindness. I fully expected to purchase dinners, bur the owner recommended sandwiches. Not only were they delicious, but he was able to assure us that there was no dairy, and modified the sandwich for my wife replacing the bread for rice. No hassle, all smiles, and delicious! Our first time having Syrian food, and we’ll definitely be back! Thank you!

We eagerly ordered for the first time here yesterday. Very disappointing. My gyro sandwich had dry meat and oddly pickled veggies. Not a traditional gyro at all. It was supposed to come with a side of hummus but I never got any. We also got a gyro salad. It was so unappetizing. It had a mound of thick, brown, unrecognizable meat on top of cheap iceberg lettuce. All the meat dishes are advertised as being thin sliced. Quite the opposite. We also got the falafel plate which was also dry, and oddly it was buried by a huge pile of french fries….cheap, frozen fries that are anything but middle eastern. The dolmas were over salted. The presentation and packing of orders in white styrofoam containers needs to be rethought. So cheap and unappealing. And all my containers had condensation on top to the extent I had to wipe them down before opening. Not sure why. The food was not fresh and not good. The place itself isn’t welcoming. It felt unclean and unventilated. I really wanted to love this place!

Absolutely outstanding experience all around. This is the best food of its kind I’ve had in my entire life!!! The presentation is lovely – great portion sizes and very reasonable prices. Great little hole in the wall! I read about Mazzat a while ago and finally made my way there. This tiny Middle Eastern eatery is a hidden gem located on Portland’s busy Forest Ave area.
My falafel wrap may be one of the best meals I’ve gotten in Portland, considering the food-to-price ratio. The falafel was perfectly cooked, and the wrap was quite yummy. It came with these deep-fried “chips” (I’m sure they are something else) and a side of delicious hummus. I paid about $10 for the whole thing, including a soda. You just can’t beat that. The menu was extensive and included a mix of sandwiches, salads, and plates.
Would I go back to Mazzat? If I’m in the area, yes, but I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to make it there! In my opinion, this is more of a takeout spot. I did dine in, but the vibe is pretty much nonexistent — a mix of about eight tables inside without much going on. All in all, I’m glad I tried it!
