good beer, good food. a must when in the spencer area.
the civilian burger with ghost pepper jack, bacon jam, onions, lettuce on a pretzel bun KICK bootie! the heat of the ghost pepper cheese was just right, enough to made your head sweat but not overpowering. the bacon jam was outstanding, very tastie.
I person enjoy the hot chicken sandwich. While the Mrs loves their chicken salad and their wrap. Our little enjoys the chicken bites that are quite large. You can ot beat the fries. Those fries are just about legendary, they are so good.
I’m just sorry I didn’t take a picture before gobbling down my food.
Wether you are a local or just passing through Spencer, definitely check out this dining establishment.
My husband got the civilian burger with sweet potato fries. No complaints! I got the grilled chicken wrap and coleslaw. The coleslaw had fresh dill and I enjoyed that alot. The wrap was yummy but Definitely would go for the burger next time. We also shared a fry basket for an appetizer. The sauces served with it were amazing!!
And finally the beer…… oo boy! The best for last! We got 2 flights to share to try all the beers they had on tap. We each have different tastes but our favorite was Thicci Boy. It was shockingly delicious! Each beer had some amazing qualities!! Looking forward to coming back in the future
Enjoying life 1 sip, 1 bite and 1 small town at a time. Explore everything!
We started with a pretzel appetizer with the beer cheese and beer mustard. The pretzel texture was just right. Both dips were good on their own and good mixed together too. Could have used just a little more salt on the pretzel.
For our entrees my wife had the falafel sandwich on naan and fries and was pleased with both. I also sampled them and agreed. I don’t know if the fries were made from fresh sliced potatoes but they sure tasted like it. My wife also had a slice of blackberry cheesecake that she said was fantastic.
I had the grilled chicken salad. It’s a basic dish that almost every place does but I can’t say I’ve had one I enjoyed more than this one. High quality, fresh ingredients really made the difference. Also the combination of ingredients worked well together. A nice, fresh mix of greens, tender grilled chicken breast, chopped bacon slices, diced tomatoes, diced red onion, pecans, shredded cheddar cheese, and a very good vinaigrette dressing rounded it out.
The two ladies working the bar and dining area were busy as the pub probably had 20-30 people in the early afternoon yet we never had to wait on service. Very friendly and attentive. Also informative as this was our first visit and had some questions. Drink and food orders were timely and correct.
The bar, dining area, and bathroom were all nice and clean. We’ll definitely add Civilian Brewing as a stopping place the next time we’re in the area.
The place is “clean” and empty or was when we visited, if it was as good as the reviews suggested this place should have been packed.
Staff was okay… but where they fail is the menu and ability to cook.
The menu mentions craft sodas but they only have one. We ordered the soda which looked like urine and the amount of sugar in it will put someone in a diabetic coma. It’s awful!
They offer Lemonade but it is “Minute Maid” so at least you know this is made correctly.
We ordered the Cuban. When it comes out it has a French baguette on it but it’s the opposite on how it should be. The pulled pork was dry, over cooked and plain gross.
The Mac n Cheese (shells) with pork was overcooked also, the cheese sauce was gritty.
The waitress swore this was the best Mac n Cheese, so we asked to sample it before hand but was told we can’t sample the food.
Guess they know it is awful.
The coleslaw tasted like you were eating leaves. It had an overpowering taste of grass. Don’t get it…
The $10 pretzel had so much salt on it you had to scrap it off before you could eat it. The beer cheese was also gritty tasting.
The chicken wings, yeah they were out. They charge $2 dollars for bone in wings (5 for $10) WOW!!!
Dessert, yep out of that too…
This place acts like they’re a gourmet restaurant but this is far from the truth. Their beer might be good but it’s unlikely.
The only thing worth eating was the beer battered steak fries!
Let’s be real here fries are ready to be cooked out if the bag, but, this place claims they batter their fries with beer batter before cooking. They look and taste like regular steak fries.
They do have an outdoor seating area but it was also empty. The theatre next door i would guess is only way they get customers.
We didn’t like this place, but you might. If you think you’re getting bar food you’re not. You’d be better off eating in a bowling alley. At least their food is good.
