this place is awesome!! i don’t live in mackay, im only visiting, and this is my favorite place i’ve been to by far. the servings were large and worth the price, and it was delicious. i was a little worried about mexican food being made in the north, but they nailed it in my eyes. chips were good, my sister and i ate great. there was a big selection of italian sodas. the people (family i assume) who worked here are super sweet and i really enjoyed my time here. i saw a little boy bussing tables, it felt so authentic. i’m definitely gonna want to come back here when i visit annually! i love this place so much.

This has to be the best little restaurant / ice cream shop. The atmosphere is adorable and the service is the very best. The ice cream is delicious plus the Mexican food is very good. There’s just a lot of unique items in the store and it’s a fun place to go. I wouldn’t miss this place especially if you have a hankering for ice cream. Be careful there’s a girl in there who’s the best salesman and she’ll get you to purchase extra ice cream. Which isn’t a bad thing. LoL she’s adorable and very helpful.

At the time of writing, this was only my second time through the Mackay area, here camping with my father for the weekend. We came into town for dinner, and this was the first spot we found. We were a little skeptical at first, but it was definitely a big hit with us.
This is a very nicely maintained, family-run establishment offering great Mexican food, as well as Italian sodas that were so tasty I had to have two! My father even said their tamales were the best he’s ever had.
Service was prompt, and the atmosphere was quite pleasant. As a matter of fact, I was surprised they were playing SOS on the radio, which happens to be my favorite for Christian music.
Overall:
Food – 9.2/10
Service – 8.0/10
Atmosphere – 8.5/10

This is probably the best place we have ever stopped for ice cream. Our conversation with Jesse alone was worth the stop. If you are traveling through Mackay and don’t take the time to stop and try their Mt Borah, you will be missing out. We will make it a tradition to stop here.

This is a really cool place with yummy Mexican food and awesome ice cream and desserts run by wonderful people. We loved the burritos and taco salad. Rice and beans on the side were delicious, and drinks were super tasty. Highly recommend this hidden gem.

You HAVE to stop here for ice cream just to see this family at work! Their 8 children are all working hard and providing excellent customer service! The prices are low, the Mexican food is delicious. My brownie sundae was half gone before I remembered to take a photo.

Set up in an historic cinema building (some of which is functionally preserved and operational), a charming bar style dining area takes the center line dividing a welcoming, wholesome staff (a family of proprietor parents and their children) creating and serving amazing meals from a section of table seating where guests can enjoy the homey cafe vibe and decor and the still used paneling and other old details of the building’s past. The kids are attentive and quick to bring anything requested. The place is a fusion of a Mexican eatery and an ice cream/soda shop, with an extensive menu of Mexican fare, an even more extensive list of drinks (non-alcoholic, like Italian sodas and the like; this is very much a family restaurant in both operation and patronage), and an array of ice cream flavors that remind one of Baskin Robbins. Milk shakes and mini donuts are also available. There are so many options, and all those my family tried were great! The guac is made fresh in house and is FABULOUS, and the salsa has just the right amount of kick to be enjoyable without offending more delicate palates. Lime cilantro rice paired with tacos made an excellent lunch and everyone got something different to drink. I cannot recommend the Caribbean Breeze enough, but every one of them was delicious (I had to try them all).
