Our server, Freddy, was PHENOMENAL. He was super attentive, knowledgeable, efficient, and extremely patient! We took over an hour to finally order our entrées because we were so busy chatting, and he was SO gracious about it — we kept apologizing, but he never rushed us or badgered us, and reassured us that we could take all the time we needed.
All of his food and drink recommendations were 10/10. Also, did I mention that he was hilarious?! He has us cackling and laughing out loud throughout our entire dinner. He was an absolute gem and we LOVED chatting with him. He is one of those rare servers who can interact with his guests like they’re old friends, while also remaining completely professional. We told him we will be requesting him from now on every time we go! He told us he works Thursday and Friday nights, so I highly recommend you try to make it to Tona’s one of those nights!
Pros:
– I was seated quickly
– food arrived in a timely fashion
– chicken quesadilla was good with a good amount of chicken
Cons:
-chicken quesadilla was more like a large taco due to the tortilla not really being cheesed together
– the mummy shrimp was a 1/5. The wrapped bacon was so gummy on the inside. The texture was the same as uncooked bacon when you take it out the pack. I unwrapped all the shrimps and by themselves they were good. But the bacon didn’t seem to be cooked all the way through.
Overall, I would come here again but I DO NOT RECOMMEND the mummy shrimp. Also, while I was seated quickly, people that came 10-15 mins after me did have to wait at least 30 mins. So be aware the wait time will varies. The parking lot is small but they have a parking garage around the corner to the back.
Highly recommend mole enchiladas and chicken tacos. Paloma was very refreshing and the margarita flight was awesome.
Note: There’s a 3% credit card fee applied so bring cash if you can.
The grilled chicken burrito is always a hit, and the margarita flight before 5pm is a must. The Jala-Pina Margarita is my favorite. Definitely a spot I’ll keep coming back to.
The parking lot is TINY but there is a nearby garage.
Part of our Tour de Taco crew stopped by the soft launch of Tonas Margarita Bar in Brentwood, and there’s a lot of potential here.
The margaritas were excellent — balanced, flavorful, and absolutely worth coming back for (especially since they’re adding a champagne margarita soon ). The volcano dip was bubbling and cheesy in all the best ways, and the ribeye tacos were a standout — tender, juicy, and topped with grilled queso fresco. Genius move.
Now for the honest part: most of the food came out room temperature and missing a bit of flavor. It wasn’t bad, just felt like they haven’t quite found their rhythm yet.
The space is bright and modern, with fun details like the cactus wall and that bold blue mural — super cute spot for drinks or a casual night out.
✨ Bottom line: go for the margaritas, grab the volcano dip, and give them time to hit their stride. I’ll definitely be back for round two once that champagne margarita hits the menu.
