Ive been coming to Davie Tavern for years. They have always been a great place for lunch and dinner. The menu is excellentt. Numerous specialty burgers. Theyve got a friendly little quiet bar. Great staff. Great service. Quaint interior reflecing local history. This is my first visit since the remodeling and new menu. Quite the change! Very stylish. I had the beef tenderloin risotto. Delicious. My wife loved the chopped steak. Potatoes got a special call out from her. I have to admit i miss the burger options though!

We drove from HRL to give this place a try. The food was good and our waitress was phenomenal. The atmosphere was fine and we had a nice dinner. Only issues were that my salad was swimming in dressing and the potatoes I had with my filet mignon were bland. Based on their social media posts and photos, we expected more but overall it was a decent place to eat. If we were to go back, we highly recommend the chocolate cake.

A local neighborhood restaurant with a full service bar area. The food is always fresh and delicious. Lunch and dinner specials change daily and are not to be missed. Phenomenal staff and service.

Horrible Service. We were really hoping that this would be our new go to place to eat but don’t waste your time. We went and were told 30-45 minute wait. We were fine with that because we knew that it was new owners and wanted to give them a chance. We ordered drinks and went outside and waited 1 hour and 20 minutes. We went inside to inquire of how much longer and there were still four parties in front of us. We told the hostess that we were leaving and then overheard the hostess tell the people behind us that the wait was 30-45 minutes. We were not the only people leaving and upset. We were there so long that we met two other people that had been waiting 1 hour and 40 minutes. Bottom line. Tell people the truth. If you are not going to seat people for 1 and a half hours don’t tell them 30 minutes.

This is the second time I have been here since the new ownership. I will start by saying that, almost as soon as I entered, I slid on the polished cement floor, slammed my knee as I fell, fractured my femur and developed a possible blood clot, as I later discovered after five hours in the ER. I literally did a split as my back heel slid out from under me on the slippery hard floor. So not a great entrance and not a great week following it. I heard that I am not the first person to slip and fall on that floor recently which is inexcusably dangerous and a lawsuit waiting to happen. I have been in Davie Tavern MANY times and never had an issue so maybe it was redone/polished with the new renovation?
I first came for lunch soon after the reopening and was disappointed at the very limited and dismal menu. None of my old favorites were on the menu and they no longer have daily soup or specials. I got the Spring Salad and added grilled shrimp which was very good and I would order again. All of the burgers were gone, the Kitchen Sink salad is history, no cheesy grits, no soups or flatbreads, just blah. I mean even a good grilled cheese would be appreciated! I was happy to see that most of the wonderful wait staff and, Beth the manager, were still there.
This Sunday, while sitting with a bag of ice on my throbbing knee, I ordered an omelet from the brunch menu. Again, I was disappointed that there were no specials and the brunch menu was equally as limited and uninspired as the lunch one. You know how you look at a menu and there is just nothing there that you want to order? Since “scrambled eggs” was in the omelet description, I specifically asked if it was prepared traditionally and was told that it was. The omelet lacking in flavor and definitely not like a well made omelet, firm on the outside and fluffy inside. This was more soft, lumpy and, yes, scrambled egg like. The grits were awful and I mean awful – they didn’t even look or taste like grits and were a weird brownish color with a strange flavor that clung to my tongue. I need to get in there and show the cook how to make good grits! I mean, it is not that hard. The biscuit was wonderful and not at all like your usual biscuit, but in a good way. I can’t remember what my friend got (the pain in my increasingly swollen knee was occupying my thoughts), but I know she was underwhelmed as well. We asked if the fries had changed because Davie used to make the best crispy-on-the-outside-perfect-texture-on-the-inside and flavorful fries. We had a sample of the limp thin flavorless new version and I could have cried… I guess I will be driving into Winston to eat the varied, interesting, and consistently good quality food at Milners’ for Sunday brunch in the future but will miss the old Davie Tavern Sunday experience.
I also wonder where the outdoor tables went and if they are no longer going to offer patio and dog friendly dining which was a huge draw for me and many other regulars. I will probably wait a few weeks and give Davie one more try because I loved having a “nice” local restaurant with friendly welcoming staff and good food so close to home.

Let me just say (sorry no pics) but this has to have been the best meal we have had in several years at a restaurant. We had the spinach and artichoke dip as an appetizer. My husband had the chicken Alfredo with roasted Brussel sprouts. I had a New Strip medium rare with the potatoes au gratin. Every every single portion of our meal was on point. I have to say that the New York strip was cooked to perfection …I did not need to add salt or pepper at the table. Our server, Lisa, could not have been more friendly or welcoming. Beth stopped by our table to check on us, and she was fabulous as well. 20 out of 10 ….we will return soon and often!

Our server got our drinks and put in an appetizer. Cool no problem, our appetizer comes out like 20 mins later and the waiter didn’t come back one time to see if we were ready to order. kept going to other tables and getting drinks/orders, I am pretty sure he forgot about us. Got 2 of the small silver containers of ranch and was charged $1. (I know ranch is not free…but $1 is crazy work)
The new menu they have didn’t have much to choose from, overall atmosphere is super weird and judgey. Very disappointed because I used to love the old menu items. Either way, not our vibe and definitely will not be going back.

We went to the new Davie Tavern and the food was great and very attentive staff. I had the meatloaf, whipped potatoes and brussel sprouts and all was delicious. I will definitely be going back.

Normally this place is great (when they are open)! Whenever we are in the area we stop in for great food. Just drove from Wake Forest only to find out they were closed for remodeling even tho on Google it said “open”. Bummer!!

Our server was awesome! The drinks were amazing and priced well. The artichoke dip was extremely good. However the entrees…the steak and vegetables seamed very bland. The brown sugar salmon was a bit over cooked and could have used a glaze, and again the vegetables very bland. If we come back by that area I would definitely stop in for appetizers and drinks!
