Low key, counter-serve cafe serving Japanese cooked dishes alongside sushi rolls, beer & sake.

Great service, very kind. Good food. My friend spilled her food and the nice worker gave her 3 wipes, they worked wonders on her light wash jeans. Theory: tips get you bigger free water cups. I enjoyed my experience, the server reminds me of a friend from Guatemala.

This is a very casual place for decent food. We got seaweed salad, edamame, and a handful of rolls. It is kid friendly since it is so casual which is nice. The food is decent but not amazing. They serve it in to go containers even if you are dining in. So like I say- very casual. It works out so you don’t need to ask for to go containers if you have leftovers :).

Grabbed a quick dinner at Umi Japanese Grill & Sushi right near the Oceanside Pier, and it hit the spot perfectly after a day at the beach! Super convenient location in the cinema center, walkable to everything downtown. There some indoor seating and a little patio. We ordered: Two Beef Teriyaki Bowls — Generous portions of tender, juicy grilled beef glazed in that classic sweet-savory teriyaki sauce over fluffy rice, with a side veggie skewer. The sauce was flavorful without being too sweet, and the beef was cooked just right. Came with extra sauce on the side, which was a nice touch. Super filling and fresh!
Shrimp Tempura — . Served with a little dipping sauce. Kinda small for the price.
Philadelphia Roll — Smoked salmon, cream cheese, and avocado wrapped tight. Classic and done well—creamy, and satisfying. The rice was seasoned nicely too.
Everything tasted fresh and made-to-order, and for the price, it’s a good value—healthy, quick Japanese. Staff was friendly and fast even on a holiday evening.

ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE! I went in here after a long day of walking around and beaching. Me and my friend were both kind of tired and wanted a snack. We both really like edamame, so we got excited when we saw this place. We walked in and got 1 edamame. Simple, right? The cashier asked is it for here or to go we said HERE well than a few minutes later we get our edamame but it’s in a to go container.. which whatever but, than my friend asks for water cups she gets me a water and she goes to get herself one and the soda machine has the weird thing where the water is connected to the lemonade she accidentally gets a splash of lemonade like it was genuinely barley any maybe a 3rd of it at most and keep in mind it’s connected… she genuinely didint actually even intend for that but she starts to walk over to the table and I’m about to get up to ask for a little bowl so I can dip the edamame in soy sauce because for some reason, we got it and a to go, even though we asked for it for here….. but anyways well, my friend was arriving to the table and the cashier basically storms over and grabs the cup away from my friend and dumps it out and says something along the lines of “no you can’t have that” or something stupid like that she literally dumped it out and then hand her back the cup and said only water it was generally just so uncomfortable. I’m also in the restaurant industry, and I get that it can be annoying if people ask for a water cup and get soda, but it was genuinely just a splash of lemonade, and it wasn’t actually even on purpose. It wasn’t like she got some Coke or anything else, and even then, I’ve never seen it. Be a big deal. So I’m really upset We even tipped to begin with because it’s one of those annoying systems where you have to tip right away, and I’ll put a photo, but this is with our meal, ended up having to look like..!

Unfortunately the sushi just isn’t good. The rice is an overcooked paste that spoils every roll. The fish is mediocre at best and the Spicy Tuna is entirely flavorless. The best part of the meal was that they forgot the 4 piece California roll off the order, I didn’t even ask for a refund because they kind of did me a solid.

This spot is a hidden gem that is worth discovering! You’d know what I mean if u’ve been there ( It’s hiding in the corner). Might be hard to locate from the street if you’re coming up from the beach, easier to see if you’re walking towards the beach.
Owner is super nice and friendly but most importantly, the food is spot on! It is quickly servced and delicious!
I ordered beef teriyaki plate with mixed tempura and jalapeno bomb to share with my hubby and we thoroughly enjoyed every bite. The beef teriyaki was tender, tempura was crispy and jalapeno bomb wasn’t spicy- just perfect, it’s a must try.
I highly recommend this place!

Great place for dinner. We each got the teriyaki shrimp, and beef bowls, also the salmon roll. The beef in the bowl was tender and delicious. Shrimp was plentiful, and the salmon roll hit the spot. Came away with full and satisfied bellies, would definitely eat here again!

I’m not a sushi fan, but I love their gyoza (Japanese fried dumplings), which I usually order with the house salad. Everything is fresh and well prepared. Outdoor seating available. It will be a shame if this place closes when the Regal is torn down in January. I will miss it.
