We found Submarinos through a post in the Arizona Pizza Lovers group on Facebook. I had read up on the place in advance, and knew that it had a lot of great things to offer. We started with the garlic cheese bread which, I will tell you, has to be the best garlic bread, and garlic cheese bread, that we have ever had. They get their baked goods delivered fresh every morning from Capistrano’s Bakery in South Phoenix, and you can tell it’s fresh. Then they make the garlic butter in-house, lavishly apply it to the bread, let it soak in, then chill the combo to allow the butter to re-congeal and form a layer within the bread. They then bake it to order (with or without cheese), and the result is phenomenal. The bread is soft on the inside, has just the right crisp on the outside, the Roma mozzarella is fresh, flavorful and gooey (and is a healthy but just-right amount), and then that layer of buttery goodness delivers a punch for a finish. They serve the bread with a large side of fresh, thick, house-made marinara sauce, also outstanding, more savory than sweet. Heaven in a basket, and I mean that. (It went so fast that I didn’t even have time to remember to capture a photo. The closest I could come was the remnants of the sauce cup!)
I then moved on to their meatball sub (my wife saved room for the pies). Same bread, same sauce, freshly-made meatballs, covered with a liberal amount of the same cheese and baked. Meatballs were moist and flavorful, and everything played well together. Delizioso! ‘Nuff said. (I managed to snapshot the back end of this one.)
Then the stars of the show arrived at the table, hot and fresh. They were arranged in a double stack, with a half-and-half cheese and pepperoni/sausage pie below, and a Super White pie above. The half-and-half was the 12 Days complimentary: the cheese golden brown, the sausage well-seasoned and all the meat cooked just right. The crust was baked to a nice color and crispness, with the requisite, foldable flop. The Super White was comprised of an olive oil and garlic base, with ricotta and mozzarella cheeses and the same savory sausage. It normally also comes with a liberal covering of sliced tomatoes and red onion slivers, neither of which appeal to us and which we thus swapped out for roasted reds and spinach. I then had asked for an extra crisp (well done) cook on this pizza to both cook the heavier ingredients longer and establish a firmer base to hold them, and the crew happily obliged. Everything was done to order, and it couldn’t have been executed better.
The manager, Lacey, bent over backwards to deliver for us. As we had a substantial amount of leftovers, she brought us take-home boxes and even refilled our marinara dipping sauce cup and provided us with an equivalently-sized side of ranch (you can see from the photo that these cups are not small). As we went in the middle of the afternoon, the clientele level was very low, so she also had the luxury of patiently chatting with us and answering any questions we had. She was extremely personable and we could tell she had a passion for serving great food and making customers happy.
Short story long, Submarinos was an excellent find for us. Thus far, in a long line of great west side pizzerias, we rank it our favorite.

My favorite pizza spot nearby. It’s just so good. The pizza, wings, calzones, subs and surprising enough, the burger. They have a great burger served on bread that’s like the knots, it’s delicious. Friendly employees and comfy inside. Never had a bad experience here and I’ve been here 10+ times. I went to a pizza party where everyone brings their own pizza and I picked this place, brought a pepperoni and jalapeno. It’s was easily the most popular, blew barros and the other bullshit out of the water. Love this place.

Finally had a chance to try this place. Ordered to go and the wait was not long at all. I would say maybe 15 minutes. Zucchini, meatball sub and a slice of pepperoni pizza. Couldn’t make up my mind and wanted to try different things. The meatball sub was awesome. The meatballs don’t fall apart and they have lots of flavor. Love the marinara sauce too. I wasn’t impressed with the pizza but I didn’t order it fresh so it’s not fair to judge too much. It tasted good. The zucchini was fresh and the ranch was tasty. Overall, will be back to try more things and anytime I want a perfect meatball sub. Great, friendly service and a really cute place with lots of seating also.

Not from the area in fact, I had an interview a very successful one at that on this side of town. To celebrate I decided to go for some pizza. I stopped by this place and already a friendly welcoming from the guy behind the counter. The pizza was outstanding. If I get the job, I look forward to stopping by more often here.

Wow wow wow. Great pizza options as expected, homemade pizza sauce flavor and great customization options. The wings here are the star of the show! Good flavor choices great price per wing. The best part is how they cook them, crispy outers soaked in your choice of sauce, and it stays crispy and bone in of course! They made a believer out of me, and that’s tough! The environment inside is welcoming fun and nostalgic. Great place for friends family and get togethers. They have great lunch options too for a quick bite.

It’s been 6 years since I have visited and I made a special trip to get my stromboli fix. The stromboli is oh so good, I can’t find anything like it. I also really enjoy the white pizza with ricotta cheese and tomatoes.
The staff is friendly and the service is great!

Yummy food, great service. Family owned very friendly bunch. The big Gino was a hit with my family. The zucchini is delicious with a thin, tasty batter. Stop in and try the pasta and wings!

We ordered dinner from Submarino’s last night for the first time after getting a flyer in the mail, and it was literally the best pizza experience we have had in a LONG time! It is so hard to find a good calzone anymore and the calzone at Submarino’s was perfection. Pizza was delicious. The sausage here was clearly made with love. Garlic cheesy bread was delicious. Italian donuts were to die for. All of it was so, so, good! They were out of bread knots for the day, but we will be trying those next. The employees were so friendly and helpful as well. We will absolutely be making Submarino’s a regular addition to our dinner rotation! Sorry for no pictures, we devoured everything too quickly.

Solid NY Style pizza. The Spinach Salami Pizza is definitely worth the hype! Simple and delicious! We also had the Supreme Pizza and Antipasto Salad. They were good, but not remarkable. Will definitely return to try the wings, garlic knots, and subs!

Thought this was a pretty good pizza place found out it was really bad. We ordered a 16 inch with Italian sausage for delivery paid over 27.00 for it. We were sorry we didn’t look at the pizza before paying and tipping assuming it was good. it ended up being cheese and doe, no sauce to speak of with 1 or 2 little pieces of sausage on each slice. (see pics) I called and talked to the manager and he got very sarcastic with me saying he made the pizza himself and that’s just the way it is. So obviously were never going to eat their food again, and would recommend you don’t waste your money here and do the same.
