All around great place to eat for good fresh sushi. The sushi was very good and very reasonably priced. The service was very good as well, someone was checking on us every few minutes for picking up dirty plates, trash, etc. pretty cool inside, not too loud with the sushi bar in the back. We had a little mix up with my food but they took care of it no problem. My only semi complaint is they mix a lot of types of fish on the specialty rolls so if you have any allergy concerns just be careful and substitute the right stuff if possible. Highly recommend.

We were seated right away on a Tuesday evening. It was pretty busy and average noise level. The waitress was nice and gave us great recommendations. We got the Phoenix on fire and the whole hearted roll and 2 order of seared salmon roll with light mayo. The drinks were also good. We will definitely come back.

We had a great experience here. Our server was very welcoming and kind, and she was especially attentive and patient with my 3-year old daughter. She even brought her some paper cranes, which made my daughter so happy.
The food was delicious as well. I loved the veggie udon, and the sashimi slices were generous. The sushi rolls were great too, with a good amount of fish in each one. Overall, we had a wonderful experience the atmosphere was nice, and the inside was clean and welcoming.

Fresh Sushi & Exceptional Service During Pebble Beach Pro-Am Week!
Visited Sushi Kuma in Monterey on a Monday night during AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am week (plus nearby conventions), and it was packed—totally expected with all the visitors around!
The sushi was incredibly fresh and delicious—hamachi (yellowtail) was melt-in-your-mouth perfect. Teriyaki chicken was tender, flavorful, and spot-on.
Service was strong despite the rush. Our first server kept things efficient, but the second one who joined later was outstanding: young, friendly, and provided exceptional attentive service—checking in just right and making the busy night feel welcoming. Great to see that level of care!

First time visited Monterey and decided to have sushi for dinner. Randomly walked in this restaurant and their food is amazing! The salmon belly literally melted in my mouth! Staffs are kind and friendly. Had a great dinner here. Will definitely come again when we’re back in town.

Good:
– Miso soup was $2 and came out quick – tasty and simple
– Tempura mixed was great value, liked the fried vegetables
– Really liked the Phoenix rolls since they came engulfed in flames! So cool
Bad:
– Took some time to get our sushi and flag down the waiters
– the place is petty casual diner vibes, a little older
Overall a nice Asian place to go when you crave sushi!
