Had an excellent beet salad, a kale Caesar, boar ribs an Ibierco pork. Each dish was better than the next.
Been here once before, and it was just ust as good then, but sitting at the counter was even more enjoyable.
My only note would be that the bread was cold and would have been better served warm, but even that didn’t stop me from eating all of it soaking up that wild boar sauce.
Great job all around gang!
Our table ordered a mix of entres, apps, NA cocktails, wines, and desserts (steak, sole, butternut squash pasta, burger, frites, + chicken nuggets). Every item was just completely lacking the finesse and creativity that I was expecting from this place. Nothing felt special or noteworthy. What was particularly noticeable was that every vegetable was void of depth: slightly undercooked, not boiled/cooked with aromatics or salt, and just…. unexciting. On the beet appetizer I remember thinking, “welp, that’s a beet.” Same with the squash in the pasta dish. It felt like it was just boiled in unseasoned water.
On a slightly less serious note, something that made my heart hurt was the chicken nuggies. I was expecting a creative take on the classic chicken nugget, but what it was was simply just small pieces of fried chicken. I was hoping for a unique breading (rather than fry batter) and a chicken puree. Dang.
I know wine is subjective and you can’t really call a wine “bad”, but it was sad to pay $16 for a very ungenerous pour of what tasted like something that came out of a week-old Bota box ☹️
I could have called the waitress over to mention a disappointing dish or wine, but it was just everything. And unfortunately, the thing that made me the saddest from the whole experience was the wait service ☹️ I found our waitress to be so unnecessarily rude. When our group arrived for our reservation my friend politely asked if we could sit in the adjacent booth, the waitress just told her “no.” Later when I asked for her advice on which of their wines might be characterized as spicy or peppery, she gave me a blank stare and said she didn’t know what I meant. She was cold during the whole meal, not engaging with our questions, rarely checking up on us, and not giving a warm or friendly vibe in the least. This was the most disappointing part of the visit for sure. A little warmth or engagement from her would have made the experience so much better.
I am so bummed. I’ve always heard good things about this place and to have such a lackluster experience with the dining and the service was truly a let down. Maybe it was unwise to visit on a Monday night.
The cheesecake was bangin, though.
