This place doesn’t hit the mark; Not even close. I apologize, the context is lengthy! We have never been to this place before this past Sat night. It is located in a more upscale food area, Google said a little pricey. It was recommended online that we do a reservation, so we did, for 7:30pm (Sat). It asked for details: allergies, special occasion, etc. We put the allergies in and entered it was for a birthday (our son’s) thinking that maybe they’ll help us celebrate him in some small way. Kind of cool. We arrived early, checked in, and the host confirmed and asked us to have a seat while they get ready. No one came to us for 40 Mins past our reservation time! (Not sure what the standard is, but a res time, IS a res time. If you no-show, online stated they’ll charge you!) Then as we were finally being seated, we reiterated to the host about allergies and our son’s bday. She said she would be sure our server knew. As we were waiting and throughout our experience, we had the drunk/obnoxious/OVERLY loud people leaning back from their table over our shoulders and into our table space as they so rudely talked politics. Normally, its not that big of a deal but we couldn’t really communicate with eachother, the host, or server at any point. She took our order, brought water, didn’t do anything else (at this point its now about 8:30pm) then returned to ask if everything was good and we were doing alright. I couldn’t help but look at ONLY having waters and say “With only having water, yeah.” I’m sorry, but so far this isn’t a good experience. When we thought our food is FINALLY coming, its only my husband’s. (There are ONLY 3 of us). 10 mins later mine comes (only a simple roll), then another 10 mins and “The bday boy” FINALLY gets his food. Not even wishing him a happy birthday, or anything. My husband and I felt particulary irritated waiting to eat our food, til his food FINALLY came to the table. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this place to eat Japanese food as there was nothing that set them apart from any other place and DOES NOT deserve the price they ask to pay. The service from start to finish was NOTHING THAT MEETS MINIMUM Standard, let alone paying higher prices for the service we received, especially for a “special occasion”. After sharing our experience with friends, they too said they DID NOT return for a similar experience when they had gone. (just confirming it wasn’t an off-day, as it happens sometimes) It was pretty much a BAD experience from start to finish.

Incredible food, absolutely beautiful presentation. This place is amazing, but not cheap and gets VERY busy. Make reservations! We sat with Mai, and she was phenomenal. The grill is good, but the sushi is unreal. Order Danny’s Spoons if you like fresh sushi, you will NOT be disappointed! We will be back!

This place is my GO TO for SUSHI/food, date night and atmosphere! Came with friends to have a break from work and our roles in life.
Our server Holly and Host Jose always brings that welcoming home vibe and Richard behind the sushi bar, #1 in Fresno!
Weird part is this older Caucasian gentleman came to our table and started saying he was the owner and interrupting our dinner, we politely entertained his company but made us feel awkward.
Will definitely be back, won’t stop us from coming back!

A great high-end sushi place. Really love the restaurant, great service great food and great atmosphere. Perfect for a quiet romantic evening or a party with family or friends. The sushi were perfectly done and the beach sake was awesome. You will make it a point to visit this place again, when in Fresno area.

My new favorite restaurant
Above-and-beyond customer service from start to finish. Our waitress was so attentive even though it was very busy and packed. Food came out fast and all of it was absolutely exquisite! The quality is remarkable! We sat at the sushi bar and all the guys making sushi were just so kind and awesome! My friend and I love this place now. It was our 1st time and we will definitely be coming back. The music was on point. The atmosphere was like having a big dinner party with a bunch of friends. So welcoming and friendly. We couldn’t stop raving about every part of it. Everyone needs to come try this place out!!!

Tamari Robatayaki & Whisky Bar is a culinary delight that perfectly marries exquisite Japanese cuisine with an impressive array of whiskies. My recent visit to this restaurant was an experience filled with exceptional food, great service, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
Upon entering, we were greeted with a friendly welcome and were seated almost immediately, setting a pleasant tone for the evening. The hot sake we started with was notably smooth, complementing the meal beautifully and easing us into the culinary journey ahead.
The spicy garlic chicken wings, a bit on the heavier side, were a burst of flavors – deliciously prepared and a great start to the meal. As a Miso Soup aficionado, I make it a point to try it at every Japanese restaurant, and Tamari’s version did not disappoint. It had that comforting, familiar taste that always hits the spot.
The sushi rolls were another highlight. We ordered four different types – Booty Booty, Hot Mama, Super California, and Sweet & Tangy. Each roll was a unique flavor adventure, but my personal favorites were the Super California and Booty Booty. They were not just meals; they were a delightful experience for the palate.
However, the stars of the show were undoubtedly the Old Fashions – the Tamari Old Fashion and the Smokey Cinnamon Old Fashion. The latter, prepared tableside, was a spectacle in itself and was incredibly delicious. Its smoothness and unique flavor profile made it disappear from my glass far quicker than I anticipated.
The staff at Tamari Robatayaki & Whisky Bar were commendable for their helpfulness and organization, contributing significantly to the pleasant dining experience. The atmosphere of the restaurant was inviting and conducive to a memorable evening.

Love coming here! Great food and great staff! I always get the Chef’s mystery sushi roll and it’s always amazing! There’s also an outstanding whiskey selection! Ask about flights so can try some really interesting Japanese whiskey!

This is by far the best sushi in town, and they also have wonderful items from the grill. The bar is stunning, boasting over 300 bottles of whisky—the largest Japanese whisky selection in the area. I can’t recommend this place enough.

First time, highly recommended, and definitely coming back! As usual, we tried a little of everything, and it was all worth every penny. I’d skip the lobster. They even seared our wagyu slice with charcoal right at our table. We didn’t leave any leftovers, so we went home very content.
Great job. I’m looking forward to returning soon!
