Our first time visiting this small town diner with a daily special of fried chicken or ham and an assortment of veggies. I had their fried chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans. Hubs had the Smothered hamburger (onions and mushrooms) with a side salad and green beans. Everything was pretty good, but wish they would give you another piece of chicken (smallest chicken breast I’ve ever had). Some menu items weren’t available (like the southwestern salad), which was disappointing.

Ate here today, I will give this place an honest 4/ 5 stars. The service was good, the building was good.. the food was very bland, hashbrowns were almost soggy. Everything needed salt and pepper. I would eat here again, it was simple food in a small town with not many options.

I visited yesterday on a motorcycle ride to a local waterfal. The food and service was great in a warm small town setting. I ate the smothered chop steak and baked potato for a reasonably priced lunch at $17 with a doggie bag for another meal.

Today we went into the Skillet, a group of 10 of us, to celebrate our daughter’s graduation. We are a mixed family and the tension was immediately felt. But when asked if they could seat ten the waitress at the front simply pointed to a back dining room and said yeah, back there. We went to the back area and arranged tables for ten and waited for a out 15 ish mins before a girl in a pink shirt that NEVER gave us her name showed up and asked what we were having to drink as she handed us menus. We had never been here before so we asked what they had and she huffed before stating coke products. We got our drink order in and waited another 15-20ish mins before she came out and brought some of our drinks and drinks that weren’t ours. She took the other drinks away, brought the correct ones and asked what we wanted to eat or if we needed more time. We gave her our order. I asked what sides came with the burgers as most of us were getting burgers or sandwiches and she informed us sides are extra. Burgers were already 6.99-9.99 without sides…if we wanted fries, tots etc it would be anywhere from 1.99-3.99 extra. Weird, but okay ..those that wanted em ordered em. We then started chatting amongst ourselves. Another large group came into the backroom at some point and sat down. We were alone until then. There are ten of us, so yes, all of us chatting and giggling may have been a little louder than normal, but we weren’t being belligerent, ugly or obscene in any way. The waitress is now standing across the room with the second party and turns and yells across the dining room for us to hush/shut up as she can’t hear to take the other table’s order. Very rude and unnecessary. We fell silent and she sarcasticly said “Thank you” and continued taking the other table’s order as we remained silent. I can see a party of ten being louder as we were all talking with each other but not so much that she couldn’t walk over and simply tell us she was having trouble hearing her guests and could we quiet down a bit or speak softer. Mind you, the entire restaurant is full at this time, we are not the only people in there or only large party at this time. She took their order, sent us an ugly look and simply never returned to our table. Another girl brought us out food, offered us refills and gave us our check. We paid $128+change for 6 burgers, no sides, 2 burgers + fries and 2 $10 chicken cogburns that were so overcooked one was inedible. Nobody came to check on us in reference to the food after it was dropped. Our check was dropped with it. Two of our guests had water and 3 chocolate milk that I learned was 4.99 a glass. We were treated poorly, the food was mediocre at best and honestly, we wanted to have a nice celebratory lunch with our grad but that didn’t happen. We were never rude, dismissive, obscene or even raised our voice at or towards anybody. We felt every eye on us when my husband walked in and feel that overall, the entire experience was horrible. He was so uncomfortable he didn’t want to tell the woman at the front what happened. I felt the same but after sitting on it for the rest of the afternoon , I felt something had to be said. We honestly could’ve paid the same at McDonalds and at least got fries with our burgers. Will never be back. Ever. I was looking for a gem to support but found where not to go instead.

Breakfast sucks. Had biscuits and gravy the gravy had no flavor it was like they did flour and water and put it on top of a hard biscuit. And I had 3 eggs over easy on the side. The white weren’t even cooked it was like snot running on my plate, couldn’t even eat it.very bad breakfast. The service was good. The atmosphere was good, but the food I would love to give it a −5.

First time visiting here. It’s a small town casual diner and we really liked it. You can tell it’s been around for awhile, but there’s a reason for that. The service was great and the food was good too. You can tell it’s homemade. Prices are very reasonable. So if you like good homemade food I’m a very casual atmosphere you’ll like Southern Skillet. Breakfast is served until 10:30 AM. Their hours vary, so check beforehand.
