Ghirardelli Square is iconic San Francisco – We closed our night out there. The Sunday we chose was delish and for us, perfect to share. The atmosphere was magical at the holiday season. Great options for dining and shopping with beautiful views of the bay at night. A comfortable area to stroll and enjoy the evening.

The best way to describe the Ghirardelli Chocolate Experience is to imagine if Ghirardelli built its own mall – it’s a whole destination dedicated to chocolate. This isn’t just a single shop; it’s a collection of buildings with a restaurant, a store, a takeout counter, and more, all spread out in a large, walkable square.
A helpful tip for first-timers: you don’t need tickets to enter. It’s an open part of the town that you can freely walk around and explore.
I went for their World Famous Hot Fudge Sundae, and while it felt like a week’s worth of calories, it was so incredibly good that I have zero regrets. It’s a must-try. The staff are also really helpful if you’re looking for gifts to take home, and they let you sample some of the chocolates while you shop.
For a fun and delicious experience that’s more than just a dessert stop, this place is fantastic. It’s a quintessential San Francisco treat.

Full disclosure – we didn’t do any research beforehand, so went in not knowing anything about it. We thought that if we were going to The Ghirardelli Experience that there would be some kind of educational tour, or museum, or chocolate demonstration – but we didn’t see any of that. The main building was just a shop for purchasing their chocolate, some themed trinkets, and an assortment of ice cream desserts featuring their chocolate toppings.

That being said, we did have a small hot fudge sundae, and enjoyed walking around the complex with eclectic shops and posh restaurants.

There is a parking garage in the bottom of the complex. If you go during the week (M-Th), they will validate parking. We were there on a Friday, so we paid the $18 for 3 hours.

Cute, but ridiculously expensive. I did love being able to purchase unusual flavors that I’ve never seen in the retail stores. The caramel waffle and Lava cake were divine

This place has the best chocolate in the world. Whenever you’re in San Francisco, please go here and get chocolate. The chocolate experience is fun. We bought chocolate in all different flavors. They even have 100% cacao chocolate, and it is good.

It is a good place to visit when you u visit sfo. The sundaes are real good. We got the Girardale wold famous hot fund he sundae . It is quite good for 2 people. For single person it might become heavy. We went on Friday, I still don’t underatand why all the shops are closed at 9:00 PM. Go early by 6-7:00 to enjoy other shops near by.

Visited Ghirardelli in San Francisco and tried a few of their classic desserts. The portions are generous and definitely meant for chocolate lovers. We had a mix of sundaes and chocolate-based desserts, and the chocolate quality itself was rich, smooth, and clearly the highlight.

The sundaes were very indulgent — lots of whipped cream, thick chocolate sauce, brownie or cookie pieces, and ice cream. It’s on the sweeter side, so it can feel a bit heavy, but that’s expected here. The strawberry dessert was lighter and added some balance compared to the fully chocolate-heavy options.

The place is lively and crowded, especially since it’s a popular tourist stop, but it’s still fun to experience at least once. Overall, it’s a good spot if you’re in the mood for something indulgent and classic, though portions are big and best shared.

Looks pretty at night with some good shops etc
Stopped by for some chocolate and a sundae
Didn’t seem to have quite as upbeat a vibe as when we were here last
Checkout guy seemed a bit inconvenienced by customers generally and was about as warm as the ice cream
People making the sundaes and bringing them out really nice and perky
Sundae itself was ok and nicely presented, but given it was hot fudge (the one they are famous for) there wasn’t much hot going on, – so the fudge but was kind of stuck to the glass and the ice cream very much like ice cream – not the glorious melting affair of a hot fudge
Was better last time we visited and the sundae was nicer last time
Hopefully just having an off day and not going downhill (especially at the premium you pay)

So nice in the autumn and I imagine it’s also beautiful in Christmas season. I went on weekend and it was packed and then I went back on a Tuesday and it was pretty good and no lines. Ice cream is delicious. Although a sundae could easily be shared by 3 or more people. It was not cheap, almost 20 dollars for a Dubai sundae.

Stopped by Ghirardelli Square on a Sunday afternoon and it was such a treat. I ordered the Dubai style chocolate sundae and it was rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced with that signature Ghirardelli fudge. The line moved quickly, service was friendly, and it was easy to find a spot to sit even with the weekend crowd.

The whole place smells like warm chocolate the moment you walk in, giving it that nostalgic ice cream parlor feel. It is a bit pricey for ice cream, but the quality, presentation, and overall experience make it worth it. The Ghirardelli candy shop next door is also worth a peek if you want to take a little sweetness home. Definitely a fun and classic San Francisco stop.
