First time here since it became Opal. The Simple Supper was an interesting twist on a menu.

Family style service of the listed starter options for the day, then each person gets their own entrée.

The food is good quality and quite plentiful with the starters, so if you choose this Simple Supper option, come hungry.

The cocktails are good, I enjoyed the Opal G&T, a flavorful and refreshing combination of cucumber gin and elder flower tonic (pictured).

The food was good, the scallops were well prepared (pictured). The staff helpful and friendly without being cloying or overly familiar.

I’d like to return and try more options on the menu.

We went to Opal for Thanksgiving dinner. The restaurant had a limited dinner menu which was fine. I t was posted on their website so we knew what to expect. Plenty of tempting choices: turkey, beef, fish and vegetarian. All bases covered. I ordered the roasted pumpkin soup. WOW!!! I twas one of the BEST SOUPS I have ever eaten: bold flavor with depth and character, creamy texture with toasted seeds sprinkled on top for a little crunch. I was so hopeful what would come next but, sadly, it was all a downhill journey. I ordered the shaved ham biscuits. They were overcooked, hard to chew and dry. The seared trout had a crispy skin and interesting cauliflower filling. But the fish was overcooked so it was dry. The dish did not come to the table hot. It arrived tepid. For dessert, I ordered the pumpkin tart. The crust was soggy and the filling had only a faded, dull pumpkin flavor. The white topping, however, was delicious. Service was great and atmosphere was festive. I think they precooked the dishes so they could heat them up quickly and serve them on short notice. Too bad. Maybe their regular food service would be closer to the roasted pumpkin soup that started my meal. I wish I had a photo of the pumpkin soup to post.

We hosted my birthday dinner in Opal’s private room and it was an incredible experience from start to finish. Teodora was amazing — so attentive, accommodating, and genuinely invested in making everything perfect. She allowed me to fully customize the evening, including creating a custom menu, renaming cocktails to match my Valentine’s theme, and bringing in personal touches like signage, flowers, cocktail napkins, and a photographer.

We arrived early to set up and the staff were already there helping arrange the tables, offering suggestions, and making sure every detail looked beautiful. They even opened the bar early so we could relax with drinks while getting settled. The private room itself is stunning, with the same charm as the main restaurant and a perfect backdrop for photos.

The food and drinks were exceptional — guests are still talking about how good everything was. What stood out most was how flexible and welcoming the team was. There were no extra fees for customization, and they made the entire night feel effortless and special.

This was truly one of the best birthday experiences I’ve ever had. Opal is a hidden gem, and I can’t recommend it enough.

Great establishment for brunch with excellent service and food!

The staff members at this restaurant were very professional and helpful. The level of service offered was noteworthy, from the manager to the server to the staff from the kitchen that delivered our food. A big thank you to the entire team for delivering a seamless and consistent great experience.

The food was delicious. The eggs benedict were made perfectly and the taste was on point. The smash burger was a solid burger cooked and seasoned to perfection. The only critique I have is that the fries that accompanied the burger could’ve been served better — I found that the temperature of the fries were a little on the colder end and not as crispy as I was expecting. The seasoning was good, however!

The best part of the meal was the dessert — the tiramisu and the key lime pie. Both were delicious and definitely worth the order.

Overall a great experience both in terms of service and food. Would highly recommend this place if you’re looking for somewhere to visit in the area! Hoping to return for dinner some time soon!

flavor profile that we have never tried before, the pancakes were so so we did not tasted the shrimp, burger was awesome, and the drink were great the 0% expresso martini was lacking some body but kudos for the taste. Overall service was excellent!.

What a great little spot! Had the clam spaghetti appetizer, scallops, and key lime pie, all of which were absolutely delicious. Cozy, not too loud (which I really appreciate), and very attentive servers. Chico provided excellent recommendations and service throughout the entire meal! Definitely will return.

Just enjoyed a delicious dinner alfresco at this neighborhood gem! Food was outstanding. New item, (lightly) fried trumpet mushrooms, disappeared quickly. The creamy pea risotto is a next-level comfort meal and the rockfish was perfectly cooked. Service was friendly and efficient. Well done, Opal! Will definitely visit your second restaurant in Chevy Chase Lake when it opens in November.

Our server Juliana was very attentive. Besides our entrees, we also had the lamb pita for appetizers, tasty cocktails and wine, and crumble for dessert.

Came here to say for Restaurant Week and it didn’t disappoint! Shout out to Kiara (sp?) from AZ who greeted us. The bartender from Guatemala made great drinks. Oysters and scallops were terrific. The chocolate dessert was also really good. Overall it was an awesome night.

Came here recently Friday night for my birthday dinner with friends—overall it was great! Service was good too.

Food was delicious! Highly recommend the Maine Lobster Ravioli, Clams with Saffron Spaghetti, Dry Aged Roseda Beef Striploin, and Mushroom Risotto. For shareables, the Wood Fired Oysters and Crispy Brussel Sprouts were good, but wasn’t a huge fan of the Ricotta Dumplings. For desserts, we tried all three desserts but I only enjoyed the Key Lime Pie. Cocktails were pretty good! We ordered different rounds of shots and they came out pretty tasty.

Parking is a bit tough here—there’s street parking if you can find a spot, or there’s a small parking lot in the back but not too safe if you’re by yourself.
