We stopped by Origami later in the evening around sunset-in which the ambiance instilled such joy. The atmosphere was wonderful, calming, and felt familiar and welcoming. The menu was simple, pricing fair, and best of all, the food was amazing. We ordered Green tea, served in a kettle piping hot (wonderful!), Miso, and 3 Rolls:

A.T Roll, Teriyaki Roll, and the Spider Roll.

Although the Spider Roll was not for me-all 3 were very fresh, beyond tasty, and worth every. single. penny.

Our server was so kind and patient, even apologizing for a roll taking longer than expected (which was not long at all!!)

We are definitely coming here again, and if it remains as consistent, it will be my favorite place to eat sushi in Corpus Christi.

Food is delicious and server was very helpful! The inside is a little too dark for me

Nice and quiet dining area. Fresh sushi and the best hand rolls I’ve had in a while. I ordered Salmon Roe Nigiri We had the shrimp croquette as an appetizer and they were also freshly prepared. Dinner portions include both soup and salad.

Misoshiru was not tasty. Not hot, too much tofu which was not cut evenly. Raw sliced green onions in misoshiru. Never had raw green onions in misoshiru in my life before. Any instant misoshiru tastes better. My friend could not eat his misoshiru.

Rice was not cooked right. I would rather eat rice at home.
Salmon was very tasty with sauce. Shrimp looked good but did not have much taste.

Tempura was just like average home made, not a professional standard. Shrimp tempura was over cooked.

We originally wanted to try this place for the sea urchin, but unfortunately, they were out at this time. But the rest of the food was amazing! We did start with some escolar sashimi, which was delicious. I had the Origami Seafood Plate, and my husband had the Seafood Platter. Both were very good.
They both came with soup and salad, with a nice dressing. The sauces on my plate really tied everything together. We definitely would like to go back and try some of their other dishes and rolls.

This was recommended by one of my husband’s coworkers, so we decided to try it out. The waitresses were friendly, and the menu was simple which I can appreciate. Too many options for me will give me a headache. We got the tempura and miso soup to start. Miso soup was nice and hot, very comforting. The tempura was okay. It wasn’t my favorite. The batter was light and airy, but just not crispy enough for my liking. We waited close to an hour for our sushi because there was only one sushi chef, he was also an elderly man so we were understanding about it. We were a little taken aback when my husband’s sushi rolls took long though. We had just finished our sashimi, and we waited another half an hour for his rolls. I will say that this is probably the freshest sashimi I have had in TX. It just melts in your mouth, the slices were a little skimpy though. The rolls we got were decent, we thought it was just average, but once again the fish tasted very fresh. Unfortunately, we left here a little less than content, so we had to go get a “second” dinner. It was a nice experience to go here, but I don’t think we will be back.

Arrived to place a to-go order and waited almost 20 minutes before someone actually came to greet me, although I know they saw me waiting all that time. Then, someone finally came and promptly told me they weren’t taking orders, rudely saying, “Can’t you see we’re busy?”

The best sushi in Corpus IF you’re looking for Japanese food. Which you should be. You will not find 30 different $16 dollar rolls full of fried chicken and covered in strawberries here. This is an authentic Japanese restaurant. Try the sampler for a taste of festival street food. And if your starving, you’ve got to check out the big roll, a huge futomaki filled with tamagoyaki and daikon and all the good stuff.

Origami has been a Corpus Christi essential establishment since 1990, I personally have been visiting since as long as I can remember, my picture proudly hangs on the wall, a small 3 old buried deep into his soup bowl. The food is always great, and the sushi a exercise in perfection and dedication to true Japanese cuisine. The staff has had it’s ups and downs but has settled into a comfortable consistency that is both welcoming and efficient. The atmosphere takes you to Japan and is very homey. Overall I highly recommend this establishment.
Ps try the Philadelphia Roll or the Dragon, both are excellent, and far better priced then many local rivals.
If your in the mood for tempura its excellent and the Ginger steak while a smaller cut is always excellent.
