My coworkers and I tried this on a whim and we were all very happy with our experience. The ladies working there were pleasant and very helpful. The food was all prepared fresh. Fresh tomatoes, onions, lettuce, etc. This is an old school sub shop so no boujee toaster ovens. You get old fashioned deliciousness! All of us got different subs and we each greatly enjoyed them. I’d highly recommend.

I moved to the area back in 1986 and, for some reason, never went to Giant Sub. I always assumed it was just another local sandwich shop and figured Subway or McDonald’s would be cheaper and faster. That was a big mistake.
This spring I finally gave Giant Sub a try—and I’ve been back many times since. They’re fast, their prices are perfect, and the best part is the sandwiches themselves: packed with fresh, high-quality ingredients. It’s not just bread with a couple of slices of meat and cheese; every sandwich is loaded and flavorful.
I honestly can’t say enough about how good they are. Giant Sub has completely changed the way I think about grabbing a sandwich.

Service was friendly and quick.
The small genoa sub was expensive ($12.53) and terrible. Significantly worse than the average gas station sub.
Ingredients were sparing and poor. Not a shred of lettuce. Tomatoes were pale and flaccid. The few huge pickle slices were tasteless. No olives. It wasn’t even nice bread. The only ingredient they were generous with was the onion, which was nicely sliced. Unfortunately it was rather strong and ended up dominating the flavor (and my stomach).
A real bummer.

Teenage staff busy socializing, no real intent to learn or give a clue about food preparation, customer service, or foodservice. Meatball sub was served eat-in and it was stone cold. Cold sauce, cold cheese, cold balls. Ordered a chicken salad on wheat. It was on white. That’s just fundamentals. Imagine your kitchen full of your teenager and their friends making you sub sandwiches with all the grace, grabass and distractions you’d expect…I keep going back…nostalgia…I remember the 70’s Giant Sub!

Love this place. It’s been around a long time for a good reason. I needed gluten-free, and they could make any sandwich without the bread. Fries are also made in a dedicated fryer. I had steak, onion, and cheese, and it was grilled perfectly. Recommend the sweet sauce, too. The owner is well versed in celiac disease.

We had been going there for years before moving away. It was our favorite sub shop and we ate there weekly. The elderly couple who owned the place were usually sitting at their booth and it was a great family atmosphere.
The last few years, we have had the opportunity to travel through Ellsworth several times a month during the summer and was excited to be able to get my favorite pepperoni sub with sweet relish.
It is such a disappointment that the quality and quantity of fillings has dropped so low and price has gone up. I tried for a second time this month, even telling the young lady taking my order that the roll for my sub last week was very stale & hard so please make sure to make it with a fresh soft roll. She basically shrugged it off without even an apology?!
My sub was even worse than the one last week. The pepperoni was burnt, something had a bitter aftertaste and it had a very minimal amount of vegetables with almost no relish. About a 3rd of the roll was hard, as well. Definitely not worth trying again, I’m done.

Driest sandwich I’ve ever had in my entire life. The roast beef was entirely void of any flavor and moisture, it was drier than anything I’ve ever seen before. Couldn’t even finish half of it, which is unfortunate since it was almost $40 for 2 sandwiches.

Marion took care of me at Lamoine Baptist Church in 60’s so of course I would be one of Giant Subs 1st customers in late 70’s ! The food has always been Excellent – never had one bad item in over 45 years ! And some summers I ate there every day ! It has always been there – open every day but “ church day “ ! A fine Downeast landmark , hope it always will be open and serving “ Best Subs in Maine “ !
