We love this place! We’ve been here a few times, and the food never disappoints us. The restaurant is very spacious with a large variety of food. The flavor is very authentic. Malatang tastes great and comes with plenty of meat and veggies. I highly recommend the brown sugar rice cakes.

Ambiance – 5/5 Great experience wit unique decor, the dining area gives off the old street vibes for sure. When you walked in, immediately you are greeted with this nice Chinese decoration. Even their mugs are unique and give the old street vibes.

Food – 5/5 we ordered some skewers, malatang and tomato beef brisket noodle soup. I said their malatang is the best and the highlight here. We ordered the mild spicy Cheng Du soup base that comes with less soup and serve on a big platter. The broth is clean yet super flavorful, tasty with a good strong hint of spice. The heat level was just nice for us as we get to enjoy the broth without the numbing/burning hot effect.

Their fried tofu and quail eggs skewers are seasoned just nice and only complained is the portion is small as I was expecting more than 3pieces of tofu per skewers. But then again these are not the normal cold tofu (it’s the better grade, chewy version).

We ended with their rice cake. It’s so good and addictive. I couldn’t stop eating and have to hold myself back to save the last piece for my family. It’s crunchy on the outside but super light and airy inside (unlike most other rice cakes which are usually fairly dense) And very soft and chewy.

Service – 5/5 Very good, observant and attentive. They provided us with extra napkins without us having to ask for more.

I will for sure come back again.

This is my favorite Malatang place in Bay Area! The spicy dish is so authentic and tasty~! VERY BIG PORTION and fair price. The spicy boil dishes are very good, don’t forget to try.

We order the deep fried pork every time.

The little sausages are so special, highly recommend to add on.
$1.99 Brown sugar jelly cup is nice dessert at the end.

Food was good, but spicy! We loved the small snacks such as fried rice cake and sesame balls. Price is on the steeper side as I didn’t expect to pay $78 (dinner for two, tax and tip included) for Malatang. To be fair, this is not your typical cost-by-weight type of malatang, and their appetizer portion is quite big for the price. Overall, enjoyed our experience there.

We loved the fish and the variety of meat you can add in the soup! The bone soup itself is very delicious and friendly to us, who can eat spicy but prefer not to (a little 上火 at the moment). We enjoyed the service and the throwback Chinese music.

Overall a pleasant experience. Reasonable pricing and portion. Authentic taste.

Positives:
– Food (the Mala Tang/spicy stew mix) tastes good and authentic (not the best, but good…)
– Portion is reasonable: $20 should fulfill most hungry soul; unlike some other comments, portion of beef is actually decent, wish they can throw in a bit more vege
– Complementary seasoning bar
– Environment is clean

Negatives:
– Service is authentic Chinese style too… No spoon provided, you gotta order through your phone, barely any service at all except serving water, food and check
– Beef is overcooked
– Presentation can do a bit finesse to justify the pricing, looks too authentic like $2 street food in China, or a poor college kid’s meal prepared in their dorm
– Lunch special not available on weekends

Rating: 4/5

Best maocai in the bay area in my opinion! Don’t miss out if you like spicy food. If you cannot eat spicy food, bone soup malatang is perfect. The decoration in the restaurant is also interesting.
