We had the steak on the hot stone and loved cooking it ourselves at the table — such a great experience and the steak was full of flavour and perfectly presented.
A really lovely atmosphere and a perfect way to celebrate. We’ll definitely be back! ⭐
Visited for lunch. Decor and setting are nice.
Staff were friendly and helpful (although as we entered someone came in behind us shouting ‘they don’t pay their staff!’ which caused a bit of an atmosphere).
Items containing gluten are marked on the menu. I informed the waiter about being Coeliac and didn’t get the most confident response to be honest. I was told there WOULD be cross contamination in the kitchen as they make their own flatbreads and if I was ok with that (obviously not if it was a guaranteed cross contamination).
I clarified further – the head chef would be made aware of my order and surfaces my food would be prepped on would be cleaned down. The waiter did check if chips were cooked in a gluten free fryer – which they are.
I went for the Ribeye, Skin on Chips, Garlic butter & Honey butter and Peppercorn sauce. Overall it was ok. I found the chips were ‘greasy’ and disappointing. Not much flavour to the steak. Peppercorn sauce was very nice.
I had no ‘Coeliac’ reaction after the meal (always a win) but just felt slightly uncomfortable during my visit. Our waiter was very nice and accommodating but didn’t seem that confident dealing with a Coeliac.
I would just advise anyone with dietary requirements to be cautious if visiting and ask plenty of questions.
Pasture is still top of my list for steak.
We had never been to a restaurant where we had to cook our own steak, and his breakdown of what we needed to do was superb, very detailed and made it sound simple.
I was quite sceptical about paying to cook my own steak but was surprised as to how easy it was, and was impressed with the atmosphere and ambience as well as the novelty of the place.
We ordered the fillet steak with tiger prawns as well as the flat iron steak, plus 3 pints each was £115. Not a bad price considering the quality and service we received.
Would highly recommend to anyone who loves steak and fancies something a bit different.
For suggestions, I would suggest Mugshot to re-design the booth seatings if there is a chance, because when I was sitting there, I felt that the height of the seat was a little bit higher than normal standard, and my tummy was too close to the edge of the table, making me not feeling very comfortable. In addition, it would be great if the staff could speed up the payment process.
Anyway, it’s nice having a dinner at Mugshot Restaurants Cardiff.
