I have had my share of lunch soups but think I have found my favorite. The Mississippi Gumbo is De-Light-Ful. The collar greens, black eyed peas, okra, onions and shredded turkey made my day. There are additional ingredients also but I will leave you to figure them out yourself.

And when you add great food with great service, I was full before I began eating. I am truly glad I stopped by for lunch today. I recommend this soup to anyone. And make sure to get the pork belly. The crackers were added by me.

This place is located inside of the Mississippi museum. So go and get educated on the history of the state and get you a great bowl of soup.

There is a hidden cafe in downtown Jackson just waiting for you to arrive and experience its culinary flare. Inside the Two Mississippi Museums, you will find the Nissan Cafe serving fresh food with a creative twist that stands out from the local norm. If you are tired of the same old thing and want something new, this is the place for you. The best part is you do not have to pay museum admission to enjoy the cafe.

On the day I visited, I ordered the BLT press made with pork belly instead of the usual bacon. It was a culinary experience that makes me want to return and try even more items from the menu. Since most people would not think of going to a museum during their lunch break, it turned out to be the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a world of new flavors.

We enjoyed our bowl of gumbo and chopped salad a lot. Both tasted freshly made and were delicious and hit the spot after our hike on the Museum Trail.

Social media led me to this place. My intention was to come for lunch and stay for the museum. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closing early for a special event so I didn’t have an opportunity to sample too many of the items on the menu.

I requested the ramen. I should’ve revisited my decision making when I saw it came with “roasted pineapples”. The broth was good and I appreciated the opportunity to select a protein, but it wasn’t really too enjoyable. The pineapples weren’t roasted, the egg was hard boiled a tad too long and the ramen included spaghetti noodles.

I appreciate the effort and would probably limit any future purchase to soul food classics or the pre-made desserts.

I just want to start by saying that I should have tried this place earlier. It is located inside the Two Mississippi Museum’s. Service was absolutely phenomenal. The man servicing us was extremely kind and patient. He answered all of our questions as we decided on what to purchase. He even brought out items out to our tables as we waited.

Items tried:
SHRIMP VERMICELLI
Spinach, Tomatoes, Red Onions, Herbs, Gulf Shrimp, Cheddar Veloute Sauce, Served with Flatbread

*CHICKEN SALAD CROISSANT
Spinach, Tomatoes, Served with Café Chips

The food was amazing. The Chicken salad had a great taste to it and the soft flakey croissant paired perfectly. The meat in the chicken salad was also juicy. The cafe chips were thick, fresh, crunch, and seasoned well.

The Shrimp Vermicelli was everything! Creamy and Tasty! It came with delicious tasting flatbread. I actually could have had two more pieces of the yummy bread. This is one of those dishes where you have to purchase more than once. I’m looking forward to this tasty dish again!

I will definitely be returning to try more items!

Beyond Delicious and fresh. I loved the Shrimp Vermicelli. It was a perfectly seasoned creamy shrimp pasta with the warm lightly toasted flatbread. The MS gumbo was delicious too; I ordered it to go. Definitely will return to eat these and try more of menu.

We were driving through Jackson on our way to Memphis and made a pit stop for lunch at Chef Nick’s Nissan Café (he’s a friend of a friend) and we’d heard it was a must-try. We’re visiting from San Diego, and let me tell you: hands-down the best shrimp and grits and gumbo I’ve ever had. No exaggeration. The portions were big—generous enough that you definitely won’t leave hungry—and everything was packed with flavor. The shrimp and grits were creamy, well-seasoned, and loaded with perfectly cooked shrimp. And the gumbo? Deep, rich, comforting, and full of soul.
Worth every single penny. If you’re anywhere near Jackson, do yourself a favor and stop by. We’ll absolutely be back next time we’re in town. (Note: ordered my shrimp and grits without the pork)

We were pleasantly surprised by this hidden gem in Jackson, Mississippi!!! Gumbo, sandwiches, and salads were all so generous and tasty. Our party of 7 raved about the meal we had. If we had one recommendation, it would be heartier napkins. Keep up the great work!
