And I have to say everything was delicious and the presentation absolutely divine in each plate, I highly recommend the enchiladas verdes (they’re not spicy). And for the spicy dish we choose the Camarones à la diabla that they disappoint us a little bit as Mexicans we like spicy tasty food and we expected salsa on the side or in the plate to honor the name of the plate ( a great salsa hits different with good food) but for sensitive palates it’s a great place to no be scare of spicy.
The atmosphere was great and the service are really nicely!
For entrees, my husband had the red snapper and praised the flavorful sauce. I ordered the mole enchiladas, and they didn’t quite meet my expectations; the flavor was different from traditional mole, and I felt the sauce tasted burned. Our dessert was tres leches, plated with fried corn, which was an interesting twist, though one bite included an unpleasant, sharp note that seemed to indicate the dish wasn’t fully balanced. It also tasted a bit strong on alcohol, which wasn’t cooked off, so that put me off the dessert.
Service was slow, and my empty tea wasn’t refilled during the meal. Our bill before tip was close to $100 for the 2 of us. Given they’re a new restaurant, there’s clearly potential, and I hope they’ll refine some of these kinks as they settle in. I wouldn’t mind given them another chance in the future but won’t be a place I will be rushing to go to.
We came here on Sunday, and let me tell you — it’s been a LONG time since I’ve eaten food this damn good. We tried the queso fundido with chorizo (10/10), the mole enchiladas (10/10), and the tuna tostada (another solid 10/10 but this one I think is a little overpriced)
It was so good we literally asked to speak to the owner just to congratulate him in person. That’s how impressed we were.
Huge kudos please keep that quality going, because if the rest of the menu is this delicious, trust me, we’re going to be regulars REAL quick.
And of course, we totally understand they’re still in the soft opening, so the service will naturally needs some improving no big deal at all when the food is this amazing.
Super recommend!
Even though we had a reservation, we still had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated. The cocktails were good overall. My first drink was a coconut based cocktail that tasted fresh and sour, which I liked. However, when I ordered the same cocktail again, it tasted completely different and much sweeter, which I didn’t enjoy.
For my main dish, I ordered the Pulpo al Pastor. Unfortunately, this was the worst dish I have ever had. It was boiled octopus served cold ( or maybe warm?) in a very cold lime and pineapple marinade (listed on the menu as a homemade chimichurri). The marinade was extremely sour and overpowered everything. I honestly couldn’t understand the concept of this dish. It was served cold, yet came with mixed tacos. Neither the flour nor the corn tortillas paired well with it. Nothing about the dish worked together. I only managed to eat some of the octopus, but the marinade really ruined my mood. I informed the server, but he didn’t make any effort to offer a replacement dish or even a discount. I personally would give this place 3 stars, but I’m adding one extra star because my friends’ dishes were better than mine. Final rating: 4 stars.
Unfortunately, that’s where the issues began. There were some communication challenges with our server due to her thick accent and limited English, which led to a couple of incorrect dishes being brought out. We decided to keep them, and thankfully everything we tried was delicious.
The biggest issue came when it was time to pay. The prices on our checks were higher than what we had seen on the menu. After some back and forth, we learned that our hostess had given us lunch menus instead of dinner menus. After a long wait, the restaurant did honor the lunch prices since it was their mistake.
Later, I looked for their menu online to order food to-go for my husband, but there were no menus available on their website for me to share with him. While the food itself was very tasty, the overall experience was a bit frustrating, and I’m not sure if I’ll be returning.
