We were searching Chinese food and wanted to try a new place. El Calenton Chino popped up and we instantly wanted to try it. Nothing like a little twist. I ordered for pick up. The restaurant was very clean and staff was extremely friendly. Food was hot and fresh. My 16 year old daughter kept pointing to her Food and shaking her head yes. I’ve never seen her so quiet when eating. She said the only thing she would have different is the fries. She didn’t like them in the same container with everything else because they got soft from the sauce. I have a seafood allergy so I requested my daughter’s food to be bagged separately. They did exactly what I asked and made sure I was very aware of what was in which bag. My boyfriend, my daughter and myself are definitely returning.

This is the 1st place since Puerto Rico I was able to get KanKan at a restaurant locally. The portions are huge and the people are always so friendly! So many more options I want to try, but I been stuck on the chuleta KanKan.

I was so waiting for this. Unfortunately it wasn’t the best nor what I expected
Let me start by saying that the idea is there. Like the meat, the rice and the french fries are there BUT the Puerto Rican Chinese presentation style was not good. Not enough food and it was messy when we opened our orders.
I had a Orange Chicken combination which the chicken itself was hard, the breaded part was soggy and I couldn’t finish it because it was salty. It didn’t taste like orange chicken at all. It was more like soy sauce French fries were soggy but they had a good taste. I also tasted the tostones al ajillo and those were
Wish they had a little more garlic
My daughter had the General Tso Beef combination. She’s the Chinese food taste tester in our home and she said it was ok ♀️ but salty and very chewy.
My husband had the roast pork(boneless ribs) combination. The roast pork was the best out of everything we ordered. The meat was tender, juicy and sweet. They have potential and I REALLY hope they can get through it but for me it’s sad because the first impression is VERY important when you begin something so huge such as a restaurant. Also if you’re having customers spending money it’s only fair that the presentation is immaculate. You want these customers to come for more and not be disappointed. I hope this was just a crazy, tiring, bad and busy day and not an everyday downfall.

This place was SO clean, smelled nice, staff is SOO helpful and sweet. we got the Crab Rangoons and shrimp tempura as appetizers and hands down BEST i’ve had around. I forgot to take pictures of the appetizers bc those went so quick . however i DID get photos of our entrees. I got the mongolian chicken with fried rice and oh my goodness… SOOO good and the portion size to price ratio is absolutely amazing. My partner got the Garlic Beef and again super delicious with delicious cuts of steak! I would absolutely recommend this to everyone!!

“El Calentón Chino is my go-to for Puerto Rican-Chinese food. The flavors are on point, portions are generous & everything hits the spot every time. Definitely a hidden gem worth checking out!

Finding this spot was such a pleasant surprise! Puerto Rico does it better and that includes, of course, all the Chinese Food staples your are used to! And if you add tostones al ajillo, the best steamy hot and super crunchy fried chicken and perfect fries, that’s when you feel you have just arrived to an authentic PR Chinese restaurant. Try the mini combos if you are not sharing and if you like parcha (passion fruit) juice don’t skip it cause is refreshing, delicious and the real deal! Extremely reasonable prices and a very short distance from Mohegan and Foxwoods. Stop by with some patience cause all good things take time. The wait wasn’t too bad considering the amount of food we ordered. Ample parking, comfortable seating and great atmosphere. Unparalleled service! We will back! Good job!
