If I could give 0 stars, I would have, but since the Asahi beer was at least drinkable, I’ll give it 1 star.
This hand roll place is staffed by a group of young, multicultural amateur chefs (probably college students), and the restaurant was messy and unclean. Not a single person greeted the customers, and the young chefs were too busy treating the kitchen like their personal playground. The tables weren’t even cleared—it was a complete mess. I will never go back

This was my second visit to Hand Roll Factory, and once again, it did not disappoint. I had the 6-piece hand roll set, and every roll was incredibly fresh and flavorful. The bluefin tuna, yellowtail, salmon, scallop, crab, and eel were all top-quality, and I enjoyed every bite. Plus, the price is unbelievably cheap for the quality—just $28 for six amazing hand rolls! Definitely a must-visit spot for hand rolls, and I’ll be coming back again.

I recently had the pleasure of enjoying lunch at The Hand Roll Factory with a friend after a quick search for “hand rolls” on Google Maps led us to this delightful spot, conveniently located just five minutes from my friend’s office. Nestled within a Japanese supermarket in Yorba Linda, The Hand Roll Factory is truly a hidden gem that deserves to be celebrated.
As soon as we stepped inside, we were greeted by Melody & a warm and inviting atmosphere that perfectly complements the culinary experience that awaits. The menu features an impressive array of hand rolls, each crafted with meticulous attention to detail. From the crisp, flavorful nori to the perfectly seasoned rice, every element is thoughtfully prepared to ensure a delightful taste experience. The seafood is of the highest quality, showcasing the freshness and authenticity that one would expect from a top-tier establishment.
We decided to indulge in the four-roll set, complemented by the exquisite negitoro roll. Each bite was a revelation, bursting with flavor and showcasing the skill of the chefs. The balance of ingredients was impeccable, making it clear that every roll is made with passion and expertise.
If you find yourself in the neighborhood, I wholeheartedly recommend making a stop at The Hand Roll Factory. It’s an experience that should not be missed. I’m already looking forward to my next visit, especially for their happy hour offerings, which I hear are equally delightful!

I was surprised at the quality and the tastiness of this little gem. They definitely are getting very high quality seafood and even their sushi rice is on the trend of using red vinegar that’s really delicious. They even grate real wasabi which is very rare even in more expensive sushi restaurants. Price is also reasonable, so I’ll definitely be back when I’m shopping Tokyo Central, but I may even stop if I’m in the area just to get some temakis because it’s really so good!

A true hidden gem! Their quality of ingredients is top notch. Raw fish is my favorite ingredient/food. I have never had such high quality eel like this place before. Their crab is real crab. You can taste the freshness of all of the ingredients. I cannot wait to try every single roll.
I came here twice in a week even though I live 25 minutes away from here. It is just THAT good. I love their no tipping policy too. I hope the chefs get paid well.

Just found my new favorite spot! everything was SO good I didn’t even want to swallow because I didn’t want it to be over!
We got the omakase and the 5 roll set for two, and still ended up ordering a few more rolls because everything was so good!

Also, you HAVE to try the wagyu!! It literally melts in your mouth. Already planning my next visit… honestly I could eat this every weekend and never get tired of it!!!

Cute little place in the Japanese market. The service was great and the rolls were fresh and tasty. My only con is how small they are at the size of two fingers. Three rolls were not enough to satisfy me and I have a tiny appetite. I spent $20 on lunch for three small rolls and a drink.

I usually don’t leave reviews, but the experience at this place was so bad that I had to write one.

I have been here 1 time before when it first opened, and the food was mediocre. I wanted give this place a 2nd try since I had good handrolls at other places.

I came at 1:30 pm, restaurant is small with 10-12 seats, the place was empty, plenty of openings, only 2 other customers already seated. There were 4 workers there. After waiting for 15 minutes, I asked if I sitting down at an empty spot. One of workers (chef) told me I had to wait until her boss seats me. After another 10 mins of standing my knee started to hurt from an previous injury, so I decided to sit a side corner while waiting to be seated. The boss lady told I can’t sit there because she was not ready to serve me yet. I told I her I had a bad knee and needed to sit down while I wait. When they were ready to sit inside, the boss lady told me, “No, you are sitting in this corner.”

I ordered the omakase menu which included 5 special hand rolls. The boss lady was extremely upset and yelled at the staff in the kitchen. There was this one worker who was washing the dishes, and she yelled at him and said: “why are you taking so long to wash these dishes, it should not take this long.” She essentially shoo him always and took over his duties and was frustratedly slamming the dishes in the sink. She demanded another worker to quickly dry the wet cups. Then she started to yell at the chef because there were 3 separate serving bottles of green tea, rather than being in one. She started yelling at the chef saying: “you are lazy, you have to stop doing that. I am going to put cameras in here, and make sure you do it correctly.”

This was unfortunate, because I was getting upset at her for her poor treatment of your staff. The restaurant was not even busy to treat her employees that way. I was glaring at her the whole time and it took away the eating experience at the restaurant.

All the other workers and chef were pleasant and nice, I think they knew I was upset and tried give me good customer service by talking to me, asking how the food was, and joking to calm me down. I spoke to the chef and asked: “Is that your boss? If it is, I am sorry, I fell bad for you guys. This brings down the customer dining experience.” He just smiled and didn’t say anything.

Overall, (1) the food continues to be mediocre even with its omasake special;
(2) the chef and other staff were great, tried their best to please their customers;
(3) the boss lady was the whole reason why I had a horrible customers experience, she yelled, demeaned, micro-managed at her staff in front the customers while eating. Very unprofessional.

This restaurant does not want me to come back. I am sorry. I hope this review will make some changes for the benefit of the staff.
