Drinks were delicious very creative. The atmosphere ambience of the place is supreme. As you can see in the pictures, the food is very colorful and delicious.
My only complaint is that the nachos were not cooked through a lot of unmelted cold cheese in the middle and bottom.
The entrée itself, especially the latte was phenomenal though highly recommend getting that!
We were enjoying a day of shopping when we decided to try this Mexican restaurant, and it exceeded all our expectations. The service was outstanding, warm, attentive, and truly welcoming. The fajitas were absolutely delicious, without a doubt the best I’ve ever had. My margarita, made with high-quality tequila, was perfectly crafted.
When our server learned we were celebrating my birthday, they surprised me with a scoop of ice cream with a candle and a card signed by several team members. Such a thoughtful and heartfelt gesture. We also shared a flan that was simply exquisite.
I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be returning. A beautiful and memorable celebration
What a fantastic first experience at Caló Kitchen + Tequila!
My dining companion and I absolutely loved our lunch. The atmosphere was vibrant, but what really stood out was the exceptional service. Our waiter was incredibly helpful—taking the time to clearly explain the menu options, detailing the different meals, and giving us great suggestions to consider.
The food was delicious, but the top-notch service truly made this a five-star visit. We can’t wait to go back!
Servers we had were good- forgot things here and there but she was nice. Cannot forget to bring new silverware for main course when clearing appetizer dish with silverware though.. she brought my food without new silverware and I had to wait until she comes back.
Food: their beans that comes out chips are amazing. I’m not Mexican food person but this beans were something else. Their ceviche was also excellent!!! I inhaled it.
Chicken burrito was huge and good. Not as good as ceviche though.
Space: it’s a nice establishment but this is where they lose two stars — we had to go through where servers go in and out to get to the back room. This part I can over look but the street behind the restaurant is very busy and quite often have sports cars go with very loud noise— I mean very very loud and my grandchild jumped. Not by chance but often. It’s not their fault but if I want to have a quiet evening… this may not be a good choice.
We came on a Friday night so it was really busy. The wait was ridiculously long. But it gave me and my friends time to catch up. They keep you updated on your reservation via cell phone. So you are able to walk around the mall if you choose to.
The food was amazing! As soon as we sat down and looked at the menu we were ready to order. They immediately served us drinks, chips and salsa, and black bean dip (which was delightful). I liked it better with the chips than the salsa.
I order a salad and added protein it was very filling and I really liked the dressing. My friends ordered Shrimp & lobster enchiladas (spicy), shrimp & crab enchiladas, and tacos. Everything we ordered was full of flavors. I would say the food is more of a Mexican-fusion style rather than authentic Mexican. They did have some of the classic Mexican dishes available as well. But you let me know what you think when you try it.
Service: it was great. The servers were polite and kept our water glasses filled.
Price: a little pricy so be prepared :).
Decor: beautiful wall decor and seating accommodations.
He sat us down right away and took the time to personally check in on our table, ensuring everything was perfect — from our cocktails to the delicious meals. You can tell JP truly cares about every guest’s experience. His attention to detail and friendly demeanor reflect the pride he takes in running this restaurant.
The entire staff seemed motivated and well-coordinated, which speaks volumes about JP’s leadership. The food was fantastic (veggie tacos, taco salad and margaritas), and the atmosphere was lively yet comfortable.
JP and his team have created something special here. We’ll definitely be back soon and will be recommending this Calo location to friends and family.
The ambience is spot on, modern & trendy, yet still warm & inviting with touches of Mexican aesthetics that make you feel connected to the culture. Perfect place for a relaxed weekend brunch or even a nice dinner.
Highly recommend if you’re looking for great Mexican food in a stylish setting. We’ll definitely be coming back!
From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with friendly and attentive service. Our server was knowledgeable and enthusiastic, taking the time to explain the menu and make recommendations.
The food at Calo Kitchen is truly outstanding, with a focus on seasonal ingredients and creative flavor combinations. We started with the taquitos appetizer, which were delicious, and then a chile relleno, for main course.
Throughout the meal, our server checked in regularly to ensure that everything was to our liking, refilling our glasses and clearing our plates with prompt efficiency. The service was top-notch, and we felt well taken care of throughout the evening.
One of the highlights of our experience was the beautiful patio seating area, which offered a peaceful and serene atmosphere amidst the bustling plaza. It was the perfect spot to enjoy a leisurely dinner and relax with friends.
Overall, I would highly recommend Calo Kitchen to anyone looking for a exceptional dining experience in South Coast Plaza. With its creative cuisine, warm atmosphere, and top-notch service, this hidden gem is a must-visit destination for foodies and anyone seeking a memorable meal.
Highlights:
– Creative, farm-to-table cuisine with seasonal ingredients
– Warm and inviting atmosphere with beautiful patio seating
Waitress was very attentive and wonderful.
I do agree with other reviewers, not sure about the salsa music, Mexico has wonderful Mexican music as well, maybe go with that.
