At a loss for words! Starting with our server Mac- literally made for a stellar experience in addition to the food, cocktails and while vibe of an atmosphere. Definitely be sure to make a reservation in advance as it is a popular spot.
I noticed the staff was good about verifying allergies which is appreciated.
We tried a bit of everything at our table and the flavors did not disappoint!
Can’t wait to go back!!

Excellent feature cocktails, well crafted in a slightly hidden space.
We got two cocktails apiece among the three of us, all of which were well crafted—a couple weren’t quite my style but I appreciated the craftsmanship. One of my drinks had an excellent bitter/sweet element to it I hadn’t had before.
All the staff were knowledgeable and professional. Nice vibe to the whole place, lighting and seating were solid. It did smell a bit sausagey—but it’s in the back of Butcher & Boar, I’ll take it! Plus, they’re delicious.

Such a dope spot! Char Bar has an awesome speakeasy vibe, amazing drinks (loved the ‘Horse With No Name’ and ‘Teaches of Peaches’), paired with great 90’s hip-hop music! Perfect for a fun night out. Highly recommend checking it out if you’re in the North Loop area! Enjoy a full meal or go there for just drinks, they won’t disappoint.

This place has all the vibes. Cozy and quaint, with a nice selection of music that is just loud enough. I appreciated that I didn’t have to yell when talking. I should note I was there at 4:30 on a Tuesday for my bday, so there weren’t a lot of people. I stopped in for a cocktail before dinner at Bar La Grassa. I’m very happy I did. The tequila old fashioned was fantastic. Their selection of drinks is unique, with something that’s sure to cater to a variety of tastes. I ordered the brat as a snack and it was delicious! The sauerkraut and mustard paired well with the toasted bun. For some reason I expected it to just be the brat only based on the menu, but I’m definitely not complaining. Overall it was a great experience and the service was excellent. I will be coming back!

Speakeasy with amazing ambience and atmosphere. Great place to meet friends and hang out. Not loud, so it’s easy to have a conversation. Our servers were all very nice and helpful with our orders. All our drinks were well mixed. The espresso martini was frothy, creamy and bold with flavor. My blonde Russian was made well, good and strong. The curly fries order was a satisfying munchy for our group. Nicely coated and perfectly crunchy on the outside. This is a great place to meet before heading over to the Butcher & The Boar for dinner.

We stumbled upon this cocktail bar that gives speakeasy vibes… especially since we came through the unconventional entrance. Tony welcomed us with open arms. This visit introduced us to the most unique drink we’ve ever experienced – Eat Street, a flavorful pho explosion in your mouth. It’s a fun place with cool people and strong vibes. Already anticipating a trip back!

Culinary highlight of my trip to Minneapolis was dining at Char Bar. Tony was an incredible server, balancing a personalized friendly approach with consummate professionalism and charm. Roast beef sandwiches with “Charby’s Sauce” (pun intended) were a religious experience that should be on any foodie’s list. Espresso martini was silky smooth served in eclectic mugs. Ambience, atmosphere and surroundings conveyed a niche speakeasy without the expense of feeling cold.

Coming in here gives me the exclusivity and sophisticated vibe just like Constantine which I love. The bartenders are amazing, they make your drink and serve it right to your table. The food was perfect. My favorites were the bone marrow, those sweet light onion rings perfect with my Prosecco and the burger literally tastes like from Parlour’s. This is my new go to speakeasy bar for sure.

I LOVE IT HERE! Char Bar is like a speakeasy meets pub, cocktail lounge meets barbecue joint. It’s classy, sexy, elevated, and COZY. It feels like a well-kept secret: it’s in the very back of The Butcher & The Boar, behind a paneled door. You have to ask to be seated here at the front lobby, no reservations, walk-in only. It feels very exclusive & stylish!
And it is SO GOOD! Crafted pub favorites like this fried chicken sandwich (recommended by our bartender) and the perfectly crispy cheese curds, which had a smoked whiskey hot honey dip. Not to mention the fantastic cocktails, and I’d recommend sitting at the bar so you can chat up the very friendly bartenders and get all the best recommendations. They were so helpful!
I loved the Pink Lady and the Orchard Hi Ball (which comes with the cool “Butcher” ice cylinder). My boyfriend got the Medicina and the Eat Street, which I’d HIGHLY recommend – it’s a tequila drink with pho spices!
This is perfect for date night, girls’ night, impressing your boss, you name it. You gotta go!
