We were on our way home from Eufaula. This little diamond in the rough showed up in “places to eat.” The reviews were good. So glad we stopped in here. The pulled pork sandwhich was delicious. The fries were so good, I think they might have been fresh cut and fried after we placed the order. Most of the customers placed orders ahead and to go. They were very busy while we were there. Our order was to go. We ate on the tailgate of our truck across the street from the restaurant. Only because we had dogs with us.
Just my idea about parking. After reading several reviews about parking across the street. Maybe the owners of Hooks could go over there and pick up trash and glass. Because that is on the negative side to me.

Wanted to have ribs but they were out. So have to come early if you’d like ribs. The pulled pork was good, as well as the baked beans. Hubby said his regular chicken plate was good. I liked the homemade style cut fries. The mild bbq sauce is vinegary based, so if that’s not your thing, maybe get the sweet bbq sauce. Pound cake came with the meal and we liked it. 2 pieces of Plain old white bread, not grilled.

This has to be the very very best southern barbecue we’ve ever eaten. We are extremely picky. Everything is so fresh and all homemade. Even the bread ( I believe ). The pound cake is most definitely home made AND it’s every bit as delicious as my mum’s homemade pound cake. Their sauces are home made, the coleslaw with a touch of relish makes it special. The portions are HUGE!! The prices are not outrageous. We will be back here to camp at Frank Jackson state park and will look forward to eating at Hooks again. Wow what a great barbecue!!

So, I don’t eat meat but decided to stop at a BBQ joint because I remembered that they usually have the best sides and I was right! Their fried okra and onion rings were delicious!!!

Top notch local BBQ with great service and great prices. The taste was fantastic and better than any BBQ chains we’ve visited in AL. The pork with the hot BBQ sauce, onion rings, cole slaw, beans and potato salad were superb.

Hook’s is very okay for a BBQ joint. The meat is fall-off-the-bone tender, but nothing to write home about as far as flavor goes, in my opinion. If you are in the area and need a place to eat, I would recommend this place. Going out of your way like we did… I don’t know that I would do that again. The BBQ sauce was very ketchupy… I guess if that is the way you like it, then this may be the place for you, but just not my style.

Just a little mom and pop BBQ joint pretty much. But their BBQ is GOOOODDDD!! I get the pork fries every time. Their ranch is OH SO AMAZING!
The pound cake is DISGUSTING though.

We had pulled pork and coleslaw. The pork was good. The coleslaw was really good and crunchy. Not wet which I like. I’m giving it a 3 star bc the bbq sauce was terrible. We chose the mild sauce which tasted like tomato sauce. Maybe it’s a southern thing and I’m used to sweet baby rays bbq sauce.

Great BBQ here. Got a pulled pork sandwich and it was delicious. The staff were super nice and went above and beyond. Highly recommend this little place. Some of the best BBQ I’ve had. Smoked just right. No bitter ash here. Just delicious smoked meats.
