The Tandoori Box – Indian Curries at St Agnes
Reviews
I couldn’t finish it — and to make things worse, I actually felt sick afterward. I had to contact Uber for a refund. For a special day, this was a huge disappointment. Please don’t play with customers’ health and expectations.
Just had a chicken korma and chicken madras from Tandoori Box in St Agnes and it was an all-round bad experience. The chicken in both meals was sinewy, gristly, and undercooked — completely unappetising. Both curries tasted pretty much the same, which wouldn’t be so bad if they weren’t so watery and bland. It was like they were made with 98% water and no flavour.
The naan bread was the only halfway decent part of the meal. Even the poppadoms were soft and stale, not crispy like they should be.
To make things worse, they only accepted cash — no card payments — which I wasn’t told when ordering. I had to drive out to find an ATM just to pay for it. Then when the delivery driver showed up, he suddenly asked for $10 for delivery, which was never mentioned. I didn’t have the extra cash on me because I wasn’t told, and he just said “oh no it’s ok, don’t worry” — but the whole thing felt dodgy and unprofessional.
Delivery was promised in 45 minutes, but it actually took 1 hour and 7 minutes. Normally I wouldn’t care if the food was good — but this really wasn’t.
Won’t be ordering again. Poor food, poor communication, and shady service.
Looking forward to the diarrhoea.
Absolutely outstanding food & service!
The Tandoori Box is hands down one of the best Indian restaurants I’ve ever been to. The food is next level — bold, authentic, and unbelievably delicious. I honestly have never had Indian food like this before.
What truly sets this place apart is the lovely guy who always serves us. He goes out of his way to accommodate any request we make, no matter how small. His hospitality is genuine, warm, and makes every visit feel special.
The biggest thing for me is how the food makes you feel — you eat it and don’t feel heavy, uneasy, or sick afterwards. It’s so well prepared that it feels clean, balanced, and comforting. After eating here, you genuinely don’t feel like eating outside anywhere else.
This is one of those places everyone must try at least once — and once you do, you’ll keep coming back. Highly, highly recommended!
Our first visit to the Tandoori Box was a pleasant surprise. The staff were super friendly and helpful and we loved that they were keen to offer tastings of the dishes in the Bain Marie (all were really nice!) The chef also brought us a taste of each main dish of our order as he was cooking it, to make sure it was to our liking.
We had saag beef, lamb rogan josh, pepper chicken, 2 large steamed rice, 3 naan, 2 pappadams and raita. For just over $60 it fed 3 hungry adults but could probably have fed 4.
Each dish had it’s own distinct flavours, and everything was thoroughly enjoyed by all. This will now be our go-to for Indian food
A small part of the rice was a little dry but it wasn’t a big issue. We got a meal deal with one curry, rice, papadams and a yoghurt sauce for about $20. The serving was quite generous, lots of yummy papadams.
Will be back as there’s a huge variety and lots of more authentic looking dishes. Plenty of vegetarian options and most curries are gluten free.
