Had good experience after a while with thai food. Tried iced tea, crispy cauliflower, devil wings, elephant fried rice and basil fried rice. Their vegetable samosas were really delicious. Disappointed with their dynamite shrimp. It is just deep fried coated shrimp with no flavor. Overall good and will definitely visit again soon.

Sorry, I got sick from having padthai here!
A decent looking place. Quite fresh looking actually. It’s spacious and nice.
So we hope the food and service were decent also. Sadly it was not the case.
Our padthai was a watered down version with super sweet sauce and just plain with noodle, crushed peanut and some tiny bit of beansprouts. No sign of egg, tofu and veggies. If you want those included, you gotta pay extra. What kind of padthai is that? We have had padthai in countless places, both stateside and overseas, Thailand included and have not seen a padthai like this one.
My son complained he had stomachache 10 minutes into having his padthai. I thought he was just making an excuse so he could be done with his dinner and dive into the milktea.
Yet Milk tea was a failure, my son barely touched it. For desert, our sticky rice mango had a big piece of plastic in it. (And the mango was super sour.) We notified the waitress and she was like ‘sorry about that’. And took the plastic piece away. That was the end of the conversation. No further action or apology happened.
Service was very slow and inattentive. We had to keep looking for our waitress. Or went looking for them coz they were not around or not waiting their table.
I thought ok we had a bad experience. Then when i got home, the diarrhea came. My daughter also complained her tummy hurt.
You gotta seriously look into your recipe, hygiene and service again. Thank you!

I have long looked for a wonderful Thai cuisine place in Des Moines Metro that I felt comfortable to dine in and the food was wonderful. I went clear across town but found it in the Silk Elephant. We started we vegetable samosas, one of my favorite appetizers and often had to find. Haven eaten homemade ones, I can say these were pretty spot on. I was impressed. My pad Thai may seem bland in the pics but that is due to allergies. It was however, very tasty. My husband got the lemon chicken and I have to say I was very impressed with the batter on the balls. My Thai tea was also on point and my husband, never having tried one, loved it. Bathrooms were clean but they had only opened an hour prior. Parking was free street parking. But there are tons of shops near by so you could make an evening of it. I would highly recommend and will be returning. Lucky I don’t live closer or I’d be broke!

I love Silk Elephant! The food is so delicious! I appreciate their vegan/vegetarian options. I order and pick it up which is so easy. The staff are always very friendly and readily available. I would like to dine in sometime because the inside decor and ambience is lovely.

I have been here to dine in a few months ago and really liked it however ordered take out this round for a birthday dinner request. Very disappointed! Ordered the orange chicken medium and first for $16 we received about 8 pieces and second absolutely no spice very very bland. The second dish was Thai noodles medium. It was very bland not spicy and again the serving of a lunch portion. I understand it is take out but this place could be so much better. Cool atmosphere and who does not like good Thai food. I would not recommend if you are paying for GREAT food.

I tried their fried rice with shrimp. It was wonderful! Big portion, well-cooked shrimps and rice came in good texture. The lemonades were also tasty but they were too sweet. If I knew, I would have asked for less syrup/sweetness. We also ordered avocado with rice wrap. It was so fresh. I highly recommend it

First let me say that what I like about this place most is one specific dish. I have eaten at least 3 different dishes. Quite frankly, 2 of them were sub-par, in my opinion. BUT, their yellow curry is exceptional.
When I ate at the restaurant, the service and atmosphere are decent, however I mainly get my food to go now.
My biggest complaint is the portion and food quality consistency. Sometimes my rice is 3/4 full. Sometimes my rice is slightly burnt. Sometimes my yellow curry is filled up to the correct line. Sometimes it’s missing several ounces of sauce. Sometimes the potatoes are kind of raw. Sometimes I don’t get plastic utensils. I would highly appreciate if I could get the same quality and portion size each time and not have it be a mystery each time.
Like look at my picture. What are the staff thinking when sending this off. Just “that’s good enough”. I’m paying $20 just for this meal and this is the whole highlight. Everything else is white rice. Like can you fill me up correctly
However, the uniqueness of the dishes and quality of cooking is much better than a lot of places I have been to.
Lastly, the staff are nice, well-mannered and respectful.

I had high hopes for Silk Elephant, but unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had. Ordered calamari, dynamite shrimp, and yellow curry fried rice. The calamari was just okay, but the dynamite shrimp was not what I expected.
To make things worse, the waitress had no idea how the dishes were made and casually mentioned that the food arrives in packaged form and is just heated before serving. That was shocking to hear and explained the poor quality. When you’re dining out, you expect freshly prepared food, not something that tastes like it came straight from a frozen bag.
Overall, a terrible experience, both in terms of food and service. Definitely not visiting again.

My friend took me here for lunch. First time for me and for Thai food. Staff greeted us right away. Though there weren’t too many customers. My friend ordered the Orange chicken on rice noodles. I ordered the coconut fried rice with chicken. My friend’s meal looked very good and he told me it was very good. Mine was disappointing, no coconut favor at all. It might have sat next to a coconut. Menu said, “In a coconut cream sauce.” Well, the rice must have soaked it up. It was dry, and there was no favor. The chicken was okay. Carrots and broccoli and cashews saves the dish. The waitress did bring me some sweet and sour sauce. Which helped. I would go back and try a different dish. Staff was very friendly, and the price was fair for the size of food we received. The restaurant is beautiful and clean.

We came here based on the Yelp reviews as we’re from out of town. Service was excellent, however their idea of medium spice is much different than mine. Be fairly warned. Medium is more HOT . I couldn’t finish my avocado curry. But I did enjoy our pork potstickers and crab Rangoon.
