First time visiting the Ivy lounge! Perfect place for dim sum, excellent quality (my sister from HK approved :”) – Paul was very friendly and personable which made us all enjoy our meal and feel very well taken care of. The decor was modern, cosy, and very clean. We will definitely be back next time we visit Birmingham! Highly recommend 🙂

I recently visited this newly renovated restaurant and found the environment to be quite clean and bright. In particular, I would like to mention the waiter, Paul, who speaks fluent English, Mandarin, and Cantonese. His warm and friendly service made us feel very welcome. The food overall was decent, though one dim sum dish, the taro dumpling, was a little disappointing as it lacked crispiness and the taro inside did not taste very fresh. Nevertheless, I was satisfied with the overall experience and will definitely return.

Delicious and authentic dimsum, the best I have had in Birmingham. Very attentive, friendly staff, tasty, delicious and juicy dimsum, great selection of dishes. We had 1 pescatarian in our group who had plenty of choice. I would come back again for sure. Prices are very reasonable, we spent £90 for 4 people and ordered 13 dishes with jasmine tea.
Stand out dishes for us were crispy king prawn rice roll (cheung fan) and XO radish cake.

It was an experience that we are glad we did on a lunch date. Lots of the diners were local to the food being served. Normally a good sign, however we felt the staff were not very friendly and a bit brash tbh. The menu was extensive but a little confusing with two different menus one being for main dishes that you would expect plus more! The other for Dim Sum with options to tick boxes of what sort of noodles and fillings you wanted, this had to be explained to us. Food was ok but have had better in the past, the set menu for two only had one choice. Very bright lively atmosphere and clean toilets.

I have had the pleasure of eating at many Chinese restaurants over the years. Have always enjoyed the combination of discovering hidden gems as well as my staple faves!
I visited here on Valentines day With my partner and It can only be said the food was extremely poor!!! Some of the worst Chinese I have ever had!.. Food was cold. Short ribs were chewy and fatty and did Not taste fresh. Sizhaun duck was not fresh and dissolved in strong over sweet sauce to mask flavour! The Chicken Chow mein had a small bit of meat, was served warm/cold, and with no other ingredients, not even an Onion.
My theory is that this place is a tourist trap!! Looking after its local community but not those from outside it! I payed £60 for the worst Chinese I think I have ever had. Would not be surprised if this place scrapes up the leftovers and sells it back to those they know they can get away with selling it back to.
This place does Not care about providing a pleasant experience for those outside of its community!
1/10

Excellent service. Impressed by the sincere and friendly staff there.
The atmosphere is good. Modern decoration inside the restaurant.
Food match with their prices and your stomach could be filled.
Not difficult to find a table because I start early at 11:30 am on Sunday. Maybe a little bit difficult during lunch hours.
Overall, it is definitely worth a visit.

Have not visited Birmingham for over 20yrs… wow it has changed, so pop into Chinatown to try some dim sum, there was a few to choose but we decided this place. Presentation of food was neat and tidy only food could have been a “tad” tastier it would have been 5 , just fell abit short for my taste buds… but it was not far off, cannot go wrong here, so i still can recommend this place

I was here a couple of weeks ago. It was a warm Sunday afternoon. I visited this relatively new restaurant in the Chinese Quarter. The place was busy and very warm. The ventilation was not very good even though there were multiple fans on at the restaurant but it was not cutting the heat. I came for food and was hoping not to be disappointed. I ordered the usual suspects in the dim sum range and seafood on a bed of crispy noodles. Service was pretty slow. It took a while for our food to arrive.I was met with disappointed with my meal. The noodle dish was a little on the bland side. The Dim Sum were equally bland. I looked at my kids and noticing how they were eating out of hunger rather than pleasure it was evident they didn’t like it either. I am in no hurry to return to this place, but if I do I hope there is a great improvement to what was presented to me on this visit

We visited The Ivy Lounge for dim sum yesterday evening and had such a lovely experience. The food was really nice, especially the dishes I tried, everything was well-made.
But the real standout was our waiter, Paul. He was absolutely amazing, full of energy, so friendly, and genuinely brilliant with my infant daughter. It makes such a difference when staff go above and beyond like that, and he really made us feel welcome and like we’d known him for years.
A great spot for dim sum and even better service. We’ll definitely be back!

Ate here with the family to my daughter’s birthday. Was generally ok, large portions of food.
Improvements needed are/were :
Dim sum menu and ordering process were not explained until our puzzled faces said it all.
Chicken chow mein wasn’t particularly tasty and the chicken, although plenty of it, felt cold and a bit dry. Lumps rather than shredded.
Special vermicelli was very fresh but very bland.
Food did not all arrive at once.
Service charge of 10% added for a small table of four seems a bit steep and should be added as a gratuity optional rather than the awkward please remove it confrontation.
I don’t agree with some other reviews that this is really poor and a tourist trap. It really isn’t and I would eat there again, we may be just didn’t have enough of their speciality dishes to fully appreciate.
