Social Profile:

On March 28. 1991. Southside Cafe was opened for business by Dan & Sharon DeBlanc, bartender Chris Legrand (now the managing partner) and the help of good friends. The idea was to create a neighborhood restaurant like the ones Dan, Sharon, & Chris grew up with in New Orleans. With comfort food like ya’ Mamma makes, a bar chock full of your favorite libations & frozen mugs of beer, you could easily imagine yourself to be in any neighborhood restaurant from the 9th Ward to Uptown New Orleans.

Unpretentious standby serving hearty American fare, beer & cocktails in a bustling space.

My Photos aren’t great but the food was delicious!!!
Gumbo, Potato Salad, fat Catfish and the Toast under it brought back wonderful childhood memories!
Bread Pudding was exactly the way we like it!
Great staff! Great Service!

We had an assortment of dishes for lunch. Could have very well gotten by with just the Poboy sandwiches, but wanted to try a few other items. We started with the fried mushrooms, they were very good, loved the breading and the sauces. From there we each ordered a soup, I had the Seafood Gumbo, the wife had the French Onion. Both soups were very good, would recommend either of them. Then we had sandwiches. I had the Black and Blue, the wife had the Fried Shrimp Peaux boy sandwiches. The meat and cheese on the Black and Blue was delicious, and the aux ju was very tasty as well. The Fried Shrimp had a very good flavor as well. The wife even commented how good she thought the bread was, and I’d have to agree. Overall, we enjoyed this very much. We would definitely go back when we were in the area.

I ordered the 1/2 and 1/2 poboy fried shrimp and fried fish poboy and had it mixed. The seasoning and freshness of everything was great! The staff is always friendly. I would definitely recommend this if you’re in the area.

Went there for lunch. We had their turkey burger and beef burgers which were delicious. My turkey burger was juicy and tasted like 100% turkey meat. Our server was also very nice and attentive. Will definitely go back

Creole Cajun chow. Casual crowd – very busy on Saturday at noon. Waited 10 mins for a table. The food was excellent. I had the gumbo and partner had a muffalleta salad that was Huge and good. Friendly wait staff. Lots of locals were there.

The 2 gumbos and the potato salad were good but not the best I’ve ever had. They had okra in the chicken and sausage gumbo which I thought was a big NO in Louisiana cuisine. I had to ask for rice. The waitress said they don’t put rice in the Irish Channel gumbos because it’s served with the potato salad.

was suggested that I check this place out, and they didn’t disappoint.

This place is amazing! The food was good, but the staff were so wonderful. You can tell that they really love being there.

The owner is a Marine that recently passed. I can tell how much he meant to the staff as they were teary-eyed and emotional when they told me his story.

This place really hit home with me more than I can describe here. I’m so glad that I found this place and will definitely be back!

We travel from Middle Tennessee several times a year to Denham Springs to visit family. We make sure to leave home in time to eat at Southside Cafe on the way down.
The food is fabulous and service excellent. Food options are great and their Bloody Mary is to kill for.

Hubby and I just stumbled on this place on our way home from a week in New Orleans. Stopped for what turns out to be a fabulous experience at a local legend. Seafood Gumbo was on point, shrimp Po Boy was one of the best and the Chicken Cutlet Sandwich was to die for. Great atmosphere with local flavor (har-har) and a great Katrina recovery story. Wait-staff are friendly and attentive. This place is a ‘must-go’ and if you have to wait for a table, just grab a beer at the bar and wait. It’s worth it.

Food was terrible. This place came recommended to us as we are in town on vacation. I would never recommend. Moldy salad, undercooked fish, burger looks like it was rolled around on the ground before packaging, and the “brisket burger” was just cheap hamburger steak with a fancy name slapped on it. Yes that is exactly how the ham burger was packaged and the moldy salad for proof. Gross!
