Have been going here since a kid. Nothing has ever topped their brisket. It doesn’t need sauce, but I always go Carolina Gold! I despise bbq sauce, but I always eat theirs! I eat the hashbrowns casserole religiously. Sweet tea is a MUST. Recently tried their in house pork rinds and I haven’t stopped thinking about them since. Cannot forget mudpie and banana pudding. Definitely worth the price and the drive if you live 30 mins away like I do.

The brisket was great, 1 piece was nothing but fat though. The ribs had a good amount of meat and the banana pudding was delicious! The okra was a little disappointing. The staff was very friendly, we will be coming back, I’m excited to try some other plates!

Delicious smoked meats with so many yummy options for sides. Highly recommend the jalapeño cheesy grits! They are only open Thu-Sat so always busy. We just get ours to go and it’s always speedy. Many sauces to choose from, my personal favorite is the Carolina mustard. 4 stars only because they use Styrofoam for everything.

My husband and I got the brisket/pork combo plates with fries, okra, potato salad and hashbrown casserole as sides. The pork was delicious and the vinegar sauce made it even better. The brisket was super dry. Even with the spicy BBQ sauce (that was amazing!). The potato salad was salty and the okra was ok. The rolls were soft and hot. Other than that the meal was meh. Not outstanding. The service was excellent.

Nice place, staff were very friendly it was my first time there and i heard so much about the brisket. I ordered a pound of brisket Togo and It was very disappointing probably the driest brisket I’ve ever eaten, with every bite I had to drink water. I also ordered a pound of pulled pork too, no complaints perfectly moist and flavor full.

I always like trying to find great BBQ whenever I travel – I went to JDs while I was in Hickory for a convention and let me tell you, they did not disappoint. I had a brisket sandwich with loaded mashed potatoes and banana pudding. The brisket was moist and tender with a great flavor, and the sweet and mustard sauces were amazing. The mashed potatoes were fantastic as well. The banana pudding was a great dessert choice made with real bananas. The wait staff kept my drink full and everyone was courteous and friendly. Prices were reasonable to boot. Highly recommend hitting up JDs if you ever find yourself in western NC.

Very good BBQ. Brisket melts in your mouth. Pull pork was delicious. Sides – all interesting and super tasty (yeah, usually sides are nothing special – but not here!). Everyone working there was super friendly. Would go back in a heartbeat.

I can’t rave enough about this place. Barbecue and sauces are amazing (love my go to pulled pork with vineagar bbq sauce) Jalapeño grits are out of this world. Don’t forget to get the banana pudding as well.

This place is amazing. The food is really good and the staff are amazing! I always get their hot dawg plate and their brisket. They’re always packed and busy but they still get food out in a timely-manner.
