I had the Cajuri Gamie Hen and it was a hands down the best. It was crisp and tasty. The Cajun spiced Cornish game hens is deep fried and served with rosemary new potatoes and steamed vegetables. I really didn’t need the fries. Yet, they were a god appetizer while I waited. I ordered the Cask Conditioned Firkin and they had the RoHa Mild Ale on tap. If you have never been to England this is how they serve a good beer. Outstanding flavor and went well with the meal. Highly recommend The Bayou in Salt Lake City.

Came for a late lunch early dinner. Wasn’t too busy so it was nice. The noise was fairly calm. I have liked the Bayou in the past. This time around we had just an OK experience. We got a Caesar salad with salmon and the jambalaya. The Caesar salad was a touch bland, the lettuce didn’t seem super fresh. I’d give it a 5 out of 10. The jambalaya was better and I would rate it a 7 out of 10.

All in all, it was fine. I’ll be back when I feel like Cajun food.

The Bayou is my go-to place for a good Southern meal in Utah. I ordered the Crispy Ravioli, Alligator Cheesecake, Gumbolaya, and Ravioli. The Gumbolaya is fantastic, with great flavors (not spicy), perfect meat ratio, and incredibly filling. I’d personally order something from the Bayou Favorites section; that’s the way to go. The Crispy Ravioli is good, but I wouldn’t order it again. It’s cheesy and satisfying, but not crave worthy. The Alligator Cheesecake is unique and worth ordering to say you’ve had it, but again, I wouldn’t order again. The ravioli entree is a good option for vegetarians, but there are several vegetarian options here that are more unique and worth the experience. The Cajun Burrito is calling my name for my next visit.

Miles, our server, took good care of us on our recent visit. Everyone here is friendly and will crack a joke here and there.

I love the vibe here. I’ve never struggled to get a table, but I have struggled to find parking. If the lot is full, there’s usually street parking close. This place is great for dates and work meals, or just to come enjoy some southern classics. The Bayou is one of my favorites, especially having lived in the South, and I’ll continue to be a patron here.

This place hits every time. Maybe it’s the craving for comfort food I don’t know. All I can say is you really need to try it. Food is amazing, service is great and they have live music on occasion. If you in downtown slc try

In town for a brief cold few days and so happy we ran into the bayou. Food was spot on, don’t shy from spicy level 3 if you lean toward spice. And the beer menu top notch!

If you’re craving a little Louisiana soul in the heart of Utah, The Bayou in Salt Lake City delivers with confidence, character, and a whole lot of flavor. This longtime local favorite has been holding court just off State Street for years, quietly proving that good food, good beer, and good conversation transcend geography.

Let’s start with the food, because the jambalaya deserves top billing. Rich, hearty, and deeply satisfying, it hits all the right Creole notes smoky sausage, tender meat, a well-seasoned base, and just enough spice to let you know it means business without stealing the show. It’s the kind of dish that warms you up from the inside and makes you slow down between bites, which feels especially fitting in a city where winter likes to linger.

The atmosphere is classic Bayou: relaxed, welcoming, and comfortably lived-in. The space feels like a crossroads where locals, travelers, beer enthusiasts, and food lovers all end up sharing tables. There’s history in the walls here The Bayou has been part of Salt Lake City’s dining and craft-beer scene since long before it was trendy, helping shape a culture that appreciates quality, variety, and a little independence.

Behind the bar, Krystle is a standout. Her beer knowledge is impressive without ever feeling pretentious. Whether you’re navigating the famously deep beer list or just looking for something new to try, she guides you with ease, insight, and enthusiasm. It’s clear she knows her craft and genuinely enjoys helping guests find exactly what fits their taste. In a place known nationally for its beer selection, that level of expertise matters and it shows.
There’s also something uniquely charming about enjoying Creole comfort food in Salt Lake City, a town built on pioneers, perseverance, and community. Much like New Orleans cuisine, the city has a history of people coming together, sharing stories, and building culture around the table. The Bayou fits right into that tradition, even if the nearest swamp is a few states away.

In short, The Bayou remains a Salt Lake City institution for a reason. Great food, an exceptional beer program, knowledgeable staff, and a welcoming atmosphere make it a place you’ll want to return to whether for another bowl of jambalaya or your next perfectly chosen pint. Laissez les bons temps rouler, Utah-style.

I’m from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, so when I say this place is legit, I mean it.

The Bayou absolutely nails the flavors of home. The gumbo, red beans and rice, and jambalaya taste just like being back in the bayou. The seasoning, the depth of flavor, the whole experience is the real deal and not an easy thing to pull off outside Louisiana.

If you’re craving authentic Cajun food, this place delivers. For anyone from Louisiana who misses home cooking, or anyone who wants to experience it done right, The Bayou is the place to go.

Authentic, flavorful, and absolutely worth it. ️

The waitress was great. I had the blackened catfish. Not much flavor.
Don’t know where they got the recipe for gumbolaya, but the sausage was like cut up hot dogs and chicken. More like a Pinto broth with chicken and cut up hot dogs. The appetizers were good
