The highlight of the evening was definitely the fisherman soup with pounded yam. The portion size was very generous so much so that we couldn’t finish it and had to pack the leftovers to take home, which is always a good sign. The soup was rich, well-seasoned, and packed with a good balance of seafood and protein. It tasted fresh, hearty, and clearly well-prepared, not watery or overly oily like you sometimes find elsewhere. The pounded yam was smooth and stretchy, pairing perfectly with the soup.
Beyond the food, the environment stood out. The restaurant had a calm and welcoming atmosphere that made it ideal for a family gathering or dinner with friends. It wasn’t too noisy, which made conversation easy, and the general setup felt comfortable and clean. Service was also decent, with staff being attentive without hovering too much.
Overall, Tatafish is a solid option in Abuja if you’re looking for quality local dishes, generous portions, and a pleasant dining environment. It’s especially great for group dinners where you want good food and a relaxed setting. I’d definitely return and recommend it to anyone craving a satisfying Nigerian meal.
This concept was midwived with a vision shared by a couple who were passionate about healthy eating utilising our indigenous African culinary traditions & natural endowment. Founded in 2006, Tatafish Foods was started with a simple yet powerful idea: to replace meat in traditional African dishes with organic, wholesome seafood. This dream, inspired by the richness of Africa’s waters and its culinary heritage, has grown from a single/small location in Owerri to branches in Abuja, Calabar & Port Harcourt. My experience with Tatafish located in Monrovia Street was a pleasant dining experience. With different species of fish (croaker, cat fish, asa, tilapia etc) on offer along with snail, crab, prawns, calamari etc on offer, all prepared alarcarte according to your taste. The meals not only celebrate our land’s diverse flavors but also definitely promote a healthier lifestyle for diners. At Tatafish Foods, one gets more than just food but a fulfilling traditional nourishment & connection to our roots. After dining at Tatafish I felt inspired towards a healthier lifestyle through delicious seafood. They are open or on call 24/7 & one can come in to eat or order a wide range of seafood meals naturally rich in nutrients, heart-healthy oils & protein. By making seafood accessible & tasty, Tatafish Foods are redefining how families eat & think about food, especially our traditional African cuisines. The restaurant prides itself on serving fresh, high-quality seafood dishes in a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere. Great place, good environment & amazing diverse range of sea food, Tatafish offers a warm & inviting atmosphere. In an affluent environment, the restaurant is cozy with simple but beautiful interior design that makes it the perfect spot for both casual hangouts & even special occasions. The interior décor is carefully done, with subtle natural themes that aptly depict the focus on seafood in the several dining areas & halls. There is also a picturesque rooftop setting & other versatile spaces, which are ideal for a wide range of occasions, from close family celebrations to larger social events. The meals are prepared alarcarte here, so patrons must be patient or call in to place orders before arrival. One can equally take a drink from the wide range of spirits, wines, natural juices & other drinks available. Each dish here is meticulously prepared using the freshest ingredients, with a focus on enhancing the seafood’s taste using our local flavors. Ranging from perfectly grilled fish, to the seafood platter comprising prawns, calamari, fish etc, served with a side dish of your choice (if you came as a group), to any rich and hearty seafood soup that combines the best of the ocean’s offerings. For side dishes, jollof or white rice, plantain, yam, potato, salads etc are on offer. For drinks, they have fresh juices, varieties of expertly crafted cocktails etc. The restaurant’s stylish and comfortable setting makes it an excellent choice for gatherings or hangouts. Interestingly, Tatafish offers catering services for events, providing a variety of seafood dishes & platters suitable for occasions. Tatafish Restaurant Abuja is more than just a place to eat; it’s a culinary experience that celebrates the rich flavors of our rivers, seas & the ocean. With its exceptional menu, welcoming ambiance, and top-notch service, Tatafish has earned its reputation as a prime seafood eatery in Abuja. The restaurant offers a vibrant and comfortable dining experience, featuring a floral rooftop, elegant sofas & aesthetic chairs, creating a chic & relaxed atmosphere for diners
I got a glass of cocktail Mojito and it wasn’t nice at all….. too much mint leaves and lime…
I highly recommend TATAFISH Restaurant for anyone looking for a small, unique, and cozy spot to relax with friends and family. It’s a charming place known for its variety of unique and amazing food options that truly stand out.
The inside of the restaurant is nice, cool, and welcoming, making it ideal for intimate hangouts, small birthday celebrations, and end-of-year events for less than 50 people, considering the available space. While parking space outside is limited, the overall atmosphere, quality of food, and calm environment more than make up for it.
If you’re seeking a comfortable, low-key venue with great food and a friendly vibe, TATAFISH Restaurant is definitely worth checking out.
I visited again, service improved and can I say I enjoyed my meal more than the last visit. We were 5 in Number and Ordered the Sea Food Platter that is now 160,000 from 150,000 and we couldn’t finish everything. The left over we take out can be enough for at least 2 People.
I advice you to call an hour ahead to place your order as the meals are à la carte.
Overall, it was a good experience, and I will try it again a bit pricy, though
They also had a good selection of old-school songs playing in the background
One of the fishes we ordered did not taste very fresh. Felt like it had been prepared days before and was reheated with sauces and served to us. Other than this, it was not a bad experience
