Great food. Great service. Exactly what you expect from this chain. Having eaten in Seattle and NYC, the San Diego location maintained the high quality. Go for the dumplings and my personal favorite is shrimp fried rice.
Wait time was an hour … you can roam around nearby stores.

Great restaurant — there’s a reason it’s so hard to get a table. The food is incredible. I came with a group of friends (three couples), each with a baby, and the staff accommodated us wonderfully. There’s stroller parking in the exterior lobby, but if your child is too young, they will make space for a stroller inside—just be sure to ask. The atmosphere is amazing, and the interiors are warm, though slightly overwhelming. Our server was friendly, attentive, and overall fantastic.

The food:
We started with the Sweet & Sour Pork Baby Back Ribs, which were delicious—sweet but not excessive. For my drink, I had the Matcha Jasmine Latte, which was amazing; I ordered it plain with no sweeteners. The Shrimp & Kurobuta Pork Spicy Wontons were my favorite dish of the night, and I highly recommend them. The Chicken Dumplings were also a nice addition.

For dessert, we had the Shaved Snow with Fresh Mango and the Chocolate & Mochi Xiao Long Bao—both excellent.

Let me address the first question everyone has about this place first:
“Is it worth the 3 hours wait?”
Absolutely yes! (Although you don’t have to be there for the enter the waitlist or can use bar seating too but I think you got my point)

This place offers an amazing experience for Chinese cuisine. Everything we tried was amazing (appetizers, drinks, main dishes, and desert)!

The service is very professional and they even offered us instructions on how to prepare the sauce or enjoy the food in the authentic way.

The dishes are very tasty with a lot of flavors combining and complementing each other. Such an amazing feast of flavors!

The location is nice and ambience is chique; yet a bit crowded almost all the time (which is natural due to their popularity)

Aesthetics was on point too with the food in authentic looking containers and the drinks served in CB2 hand made cocktail glasses (or exact copy of them).

Really great dining experience. Everything is shareable. We ordered too much because we wanted to try it all and glad we did. The great meal was topped off by an amazing desert. If you’re planning on going Get on the waitlist early.

One of my favorite Asian restaurants in San Diego.

Picture this hand rolled dumplings and hand pull noodles. This is a Michelin recommended restaurant for a reason. There’s always a long line so be prepared!

Located in utc mall, grants you the advantage of walking around after you stuff your face in dumplings.

The food here is phenomenal!! San Diego never disappoints, I always eat good here!

The Sweet & Sour Baby Back ribs were perfectly tender and juicy! The Kurobuta Pork Baos were savory! Lastly my dessert, the sweet Taro buns were a deliciously soft low calorie snack ideal for a late night DoorDash order.

I’m still on a cloud from my absolutely incredible experience at Din Tai Fung La Jolla! This place is an absolute must-visit for any foodie, and I’m thrilled to share my glowing review!

Let’s get straight to the point – the food is PHENOMENAL. I ordered a bunch of dishes, and every single one of them exceeded my expectations in ways I didn’t think were possible.

The spicy noodles? OMG, game changer! The perfect balance of heat and flavor, cooked to absolute perfection. The noodles were springy and chewy, and the sauce was rich and savory, with just the right amount of kick. I devoured the whole dish in minutes, and I’m still dreaming about it.

The sesame noodles? Equally delicious, with a delightful nutty aroma that will leave you craving more. The sesame flavor was deep and rich, and the noodles were cooked to a perfect al dente texture.

But the real stars of the show were the spicy vegan wontons – WOW! The combination of the crispy exterior and the spicy, savory filling was absolute magic. The wontons were perfectly cooked, with a delicate crunch that gave way to a flavorful, spicy burst. I ended up devouring the whole plate, and I’m still thinking about them.

And let’s not forget the wonton clear soup – a comforting, soothing bowl of goodness that was the perfect start to our meal. The broth was light and clear, with a delicate flavor that was both refreshing and satisfying. The wontons were tender and juicy, and the scallions added a delightful pop of color and flavor.

The vegetarian fried rice was also on point, with a delightful mix of textures and flavors. The rice was cooked to perfection, with a nice crispy edge that added a satisfying crunch to each bite. The veggies were fresh and vibrant, and the seasonings were spot on.

And yes, I also tried the chicken dumplings, and they were, of course, perfection. The perfect bite-sized bundles of joy, cooked to a delightful crispiness. The chicken was tender and juicy, and the wrapper was delicate and flavorful.

The service? Top-notch, as always. Friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable staff who clearly take pride in their craft. Our server was happy to answer all our questions, and the kitchen was happy to accommodate our requests.

Overall, I’m blown away by the incredible quality of the food, the impeccable service, and the overall dining experience at Din Tai Fung La Jolla. If you haven’t tried it yet, RUN (don’t walk!) to your nearest location and indulge in some of the best Asian cuisine in town! 10/5 stars, hands down!

This was my first time and the experience was nothing less of amazing. The bartender Ally was so sweet and personable. She knew I was from out of town and recommended a Christmas night market . The food was fresh and flavorful. Highly recommend the cucumber salad , pork chop fried rice and and a DTF old fashioned ( Ally, makes them the best, I’m going to sleep like a baby) . Can’t wait to return. 1000/10 highly recommend

We’ve wanted to visit Din Tai Fung for a while and while in San Diego, I was able to get a reservation for a Monday birthday lunch! Though, as first-timers at UTC, it took us some time to figure out parking and locate DTF, so we were 15 minutes late to the reservation. Thankfully, the staff did not charge or remove us from the list, but we had to wait for around 10 minutes for the table. From there on, the service was good but you can tell they are very busy and there’s a lot of hustle and bustle, even for a Monday. The lychee martini and mojito were super tasty and refreshing! We got the cucumber salad, which was delicious but not sure it’s worth the price. The peanut noodles were good but the best part were the dumplings, especially the soup dumplings and the directions they give for people who are new to the concept. I’m glad we got to experience DTF but would recommend you go for an event or occasion rather than going for a casual meal.
